If in those two series, you ask me which are my favorite games...
Well, for Wing Commander, it's Wing Commander: Privateer, hands down. Great game, great system, harkening back to a pre-Wing Commander favorite of mine, 'Elite'
In the Dragon Quest series, with all things being equal (and really the series has never changed in style, or gameplay, it's what makes it so endearing and enduring for me) I have to go with the 1986 original, simply because it was the impetus for my interest in roleplaying. Without it, I wouldn't be a part of Knight Realms, and you all wouldn't be tortured with my presence every month. :)

Of all time?
Final Fantasy Tactics...
Final Fantasy Chess, how many hours did I chuck into that game? Too many. :) Definitely the best of the Final Fantasy series in my opinion. :)
KING'S QUEST!!!!
or SPACE QUEST!!!
or POLICE QUEST!!!
I never did get around to Police Quest, but King's and Space Quest were wonderful for what they were. Space Quest especially with all the truly quirky humour thrown in.

Wing commander privateer is one favourite for me, System shock as well. Duke Nukem 1 and 3d. Total annilation (still good today!) Dune 2 (wormsign approaching from the south) Original warcraft, Quest for Glory...Hehehehehhe such amazing games. (Seriously, look for Quest for glory 1 VGA version). Dungeon keeper (for the evil people here) Even Dark legion (boardgame style game, not the RTS) and of course Master of orion 1 and 2.
Phew...
Man, most of those are oldies....

I agree with all the Civilization games... though Tom is right, I think Civ 2 was the best, though the fascist expliot was too good to ignore... I remember a game that was down to three nations, one that worshipped me, and the other that was friendly with me, and I nuked the one that was just friendly with me, moved in an army of engineers, and rebuilt... that's what nations that don't worship me get hahaha.

I don't care what Sid Meiers says, Colonization is its own game.

Commodore 64 - Questron - still love the game for the sake it allowed you to kill off annoying townspeople. Downside was waiting 1/2 hr for the game to load.
This kid would have never put up with that

Civilization
Diplomacy
Any of the Command at Sea Series
And for beginners (I still enjoy them)
Tactics II
Midway
And for monster games, La Bataille de la Moscova, the maps alone of which take up an area 4" x 6"

Old school? Hmm... how about Zaxxon? On my old Commodore 64, I used to play an old game called "Who Wins WW2?" or "Commando".

Now, correspondence chess - that was good before computers ruined it.
PBM diplomacy, first rate
And of course, Gunboat Empires, through which I met two of James' half brothers, was an experience of gaming never since equaled.

Scrabble?
Bridge? (Whist, even)

I also run D&D just about every week, but didn't list it since I haven't had PC in over 8 years.
