I have a friend coming this event, and he wants to know, if this is a nubby event? like hes not going to die 4 times over is he? He's gone twice. There isn't going to be DEATH TURTLES swinging slays is there? with unlimited dodges and deflects and 4000 body is there?
Just wondering.
*Charlie Brown yell...*
This is for laughs. I do want to know if i should make him stay home, or not.

There will always be some monsters that seem overpowered if encountered by newer players, but are on par as a challenge for very high level characters. Those monsters are generally only intended to be in combat with the appropriate PCs, it just doesn't always work out that way.
There are always new players, aside from your friend there is probably going to be over 10+ other new players this event, and that's not to mention the 20-40+ newer players that have joined over the last four months and are still under level 5. The point is, your friend will not be alone in power level. We are always trying very hard to make sure there is enough low level content for newer players to engage in, regardless of whether "Death Turtles" are also running around. Just tell your friend to avoid the "Death Turtles" and instead seek to engage himself with the less powerful NPC content.
Also whenever you bring a friend, try to make sure you help your friend have a good time as well... meaning hang out with them, RP with them, try to get them involved with things etc... sometimes newer people need a little push to get themselves involved, and if someone brings that person to the game, they have the distinct advantage of having someone who can give them that little support to help them enjoy the game.
That was my long winded way of saying your friend should come.

You and your friend should come find the McKraegars. We're good at keeping new people alive.

No one ever ran an event with the goal of making the game NOT fun for players. While some events have had a high death count, it's not because someone set out to rack up kills, or decided to screw with new players, etc. Such events usually fall into one of two categories: 1) The Plot / NPCs accidentally overestimated how strong the town was (or strong PCs couldn't make the event), or 2) The PCs screwed up In-Game, and took a beating for it. For example, willingly going to visit a Devil of Galamachis on his home plane is almost certainly a high death count event...
Seriously, if the game isn't fun, most of the Staff & Storytellers wouldn't be running it! We are not paid, we do it because we like the game, and want to see it keep going.

You should definetly come. I have only been to a few events (total two) and I have learned a some ways to keep from getting killed. Example sticking close to people, hanging out with a few stronger players (like the McKraegars but not following them into action unless the alternatives were worse. I also learned that the easiest way to not get your PC killed during Main Mod is to not be your PC during Main Mod ( I NPC at least for the time being) staying in the Inn also works.

well....
*looks sideways at Vince*
"Ok we can attack... but if we miss, we'll hit the villagers."
"I'm willing to take that chance!"
Things I am no longer allowed to do in an RPG :
31. The backup trap handler is not whoever has the most HP at the time.
73. Not allowed to name my cudgel Ceremonial Whoopass Stick.
74. My thief's battle cry is not "Run And Live"
