If they can resist the pull to turn it into a fantasy battle game with odd-fitting sports rules, and stick to the original design of a sports game, I think it could be awesome.

I took a look at their forums and saw someone posted about making sure the dwarf lineman could cast certain spells and I thought, well, if it's WoW with shoulder pads it will suck unbelievably. For me, I should say. If that's your flavor, and that's what they make, enjoy.

This reminds me, though, that I recall a friend and I were once developing a hockey variant of Blood Bowl. We got hung up trying to figure out puck movement, and then other games and pasttimes came along and it was lost to the dustbin. Blood Bowl hockey seems like such a natural idea, though...

Blood Bowl hockey is the same as Blood Bowl football, with a lot more passing, and a few skill changes/renames.  Even shooting is just passing at the goal, and hoping the goalie doesn't intercept.

Yeah, most of the adaptation was straightforward. We were trying to work out a better method for puck movement (a cleanly missed pass should move farther than just one space) and something cool for board checking. I think we also wanted a mechanic to distinguish between a wrist shot and a slap shot.
