While I was Shopping around in my local liqueur store for a new drink I happen to find a bottle of absinthe. So I though ohh joy perhaps this will be fun. So i bought the bottle and rushed home. I did all the steps to properly make the drink. Well 4 drinks later...........no fun amazing colors, no drunken blindess , and no green fairys ( even though the bottle had the green fairy on it). Absinthe just gets you really drunk. No cool hallucinations.

That would be because these days what you can find on shelves is without wormwood, which is the hallucinatory agent.  There are only a few places in the world you can still get real absinthe, but not being a buyer I can't recall which countries.

Any drink that messes you up from over seas is always watered down when it's made in America.  It sucks, because some of the things I've found from across the globe has never been the same as the stuff here.

The hallucinatory agent is also highly poisonous, if I remember correctly, which is why it's illegal in the USA.

Though it grows wild like a weed all over the US and Europe and it is highly toxic if concentrated and taken alone. I see it all the time on hikes and things here in NY. I do not suggest any do-it-yourself absinthe making however.
