Is anyone else having issues with opening up the card and land system or is it just me and my buddy Sam?

We are aware of the issue and we are working to figure out what is going on. Once we figure it out we will work to fix it.

I've been also having issues with the initial log-in, but refreshing the page has worked for me and it turns out fine after that.

This should be fixed now - an attempt at boosting speed on the server backfired, but it's been disabled.
