Religion. Once upon a time, you could pretty much be any religion and not have to hide it. Everyone coexisted, with some good tension that made for even better RP, but there was no heretic squad or KOS policy towards anyone worshipping dark gods. You can sneer and have issues with that Glommote over there, but chances were there was no need to get in a fight because you didn't know if you even had the guns to beat them.
I can remember Malycites soliciting for blood donations for their mass and my good barbarian friends Korax and Grendel had no problem telling everyone how super Agaura was.
Things morphed and changed and some people took extreme pleasure in hunting down dark religion eventually, but back in the day, all was good. So consider that as a way to touch back on that time as well.

The Thog vs Vaden RP had some of the best moments ever. One of the best KR deaths ever was when Thog built a raft and they had to calculate how fast he could row the raft as Vaden hurled fireballs at him. That idiot standing on a matress with Vaden chucking spell packets at him from like 20 yards was some of the funniest **** I've ever seen in my life.
I seriously miss that kind of stuff.

Players will be welcome to play any character concept they wish that fits within the set scenario (Adventurers recruited to assist in re-claiming the island), but be aware that folks will still perceive "evil" characters as evil. The Dark gods are still Dark gods and will still be treated by the general populace as such.

Evil characters don't tell people that they're necromancers.
Fixed.

The advantage I see in using that old philosophy is that when we played then, there was amazing tensions to deal with which made the RP so much more intense and enjoyable, yet people didn't take it too far (as it eventually did sadly) and start killing each other.
Its the same as barbarians and ogres not liking mages. Are they going to kill them? No, not really, but the tension makes for great moments and helps people feel even more in character. This was the same with religion, which effects much more players and thus got everyone more into things. For one event, there's no consequences to trying it to bring that back since its the theme of the weekend anyway.

Within my first fifteen months at KR, there were evil PCs that were publicly so and some that were understood to be evil but never said it aloud and were never asked. This "don't ask, don't tell" attitude was born of necessity. I can remember one day talking with Alex Blockus OOG about how everyone was making sure Orias would be around for the great battle later, and that they genuinely thought the battle would be lost without him. Alex thought it was actually funny, because Orias was about 13th level at the time and he knew that on paper he really wasn't that much of an asset. But, I digress. The point is that people were worried about how they would fare against the outside threat that month, and so putting Orias on the bonfire because he might be an Anti-Paladin seemed a bit rash.
So, at the very least, this event will put things back to the state of people being forced to think about how they'll survive, because they won't have a cadre of 30+ level characters to do the heavy lifting. As I said, we'll see what else we can do to create the right atmosphere - without creating a clockwork orange, that is.
