Rules Update: In-Game Books was created by GJSchaller (GJSchaller)
The following text is added to the rules for Manuscripts, Tomes, and Codices:
In-Games books may contain text, drawings, or other content as desired by the author, as long as it is appropriate and appears In-Game. The actual content of the books has no bearing on the game mechanical effects of the book - even if the author writes incorrect data into the book, it can still teach the appropriate lores or skills. Conversely, the data in a Manuscript, Tome, or Codex cannot be assumed to be OOG accurate by simply reading the book - the data may be an opinion, incorrect, or purposefully misleading.
Any Tome, Manuscript, or Codex must contain the following text at its beginning:
Tomes and Codices should also contain the OOG rules relevant to the abilities they teach, in addition to any IG information.

Naturally, I have already made over 25 or so MS, Codecies and Tomnes, none of which have the disclaimer, and do not want to ruin the first page which often would have no room for the disclaimer. Would taping an index or item card to the inside front cover with the new requirement suffice?

Yes - in fact, if you want to print a bunch of "bookplates," that might be handy.

so my Manuscript: Gideon, does not in any way reflect the rules, lore, or opnions of jamesckimball.com or knight realms, but instead may be colored by my own 'truths thoughts or opinions like every page being slander about him being a dirty elf and STILL be allowed to be used for research?

Then following your opinion, isn't "dirty elf" redundant? Sort of like "short hobbit", "dumb goblin", "thieving gypsy", "ugly dwarf", "greedy khitanese", "emo witch hunter", etc...

That is a sore spot, Kelly. Of all the books I have contributed, only one has been stolen OOG, or if not stolen, then most certainly misplaced by those who packed the library. Hence the IG prohibition of removing books from the baronial library. Sometime this winter I may be inspired to write it again, but it is, to put it mildly, disheartenin.
More to the point, however, is that the "Art of War" did not confer a lore, but rather conferred the ability to use a skill. Thus no disclaimer would be necessary. However, I fully agree with your point about not sullying it.

For any who plan on bringing IG books to donate to the library, as either Manuscripts, Codices, or Tomes, I have printed the disclaimer Geoff posted on parchment paper and will have copies for all. They will be in a box on the table/shelf with the IG books. There will be tape as well.

The new requirement states "Any Tome, Manuscript, or Codex must contain the following text at its beginning:". So wouldn't this book also require one? Or is it a different kind of book that is not one of those three?
Either way, perhaps I can come up with something to hold these disclaimers that will not harm the book. I will think on it.

Cassie is correct, no In-Game book that has any mechanical properties is exempt from this.

There was an item card attached, which stated that one gains the use of (X SKILL) for the period in which the work was read. In essence, the book was a magic item, as I paid the cost of having the skill imbedded permanently in the book. There was a checkoff card as well, to prevent all of Travance gaining the skill each period. :)
Thus, it was not a Tome, MS or Codex - well, an argument could be made for any of them, but all it conferred was the use of a periodic skill, which, and I am certain a RM will correct me if I am mistaken, requires only a Magic Item Card.

geoff, because i know you've seen my book, would it be acceptable to ink the disclaimer on the bottom of my title page instead of printing out a card and taping it on?

Yes, as long as it's present in the book on the first page or inside cover.
