2012 Alt Event – Alok Malagan
This years Alt event will be taking place at current time in Alok Malagan, the necropolis of the infamous vampire lord Pesmerga. Players will be free to make their characters, but then must choose an Alok Malagan faction to be a part of. It will basically be split into the general concepts of wanting to survive and escape Alok Malagan, and wanting to stay there and be a part of the necropolis. We will tell you more about it at opening ceremonies of this event, and will also post details on Monday or Tuesday. Please refrain from asking questions on these boards until after those details are posted. Thanks and we look forward to you joining us at this very interesting alt event!

2012 Alt Event - Alok Malagan Present Day

Alok Malagan is the Necropolis home of Pesmerga the Vampire Lord. As a Necropolis, undead are able to walk the streets regardless of where the hour lies.
Alok Malagan is separated into three areas. The underground areas is the core of the city where the undead lords reside. The above ground area are dark and heavily wooded lands riddled with watchtowers and outpost buildings. This area is known as the Grimmshoard, and the last area is a few hamlets that reside on the far reaches of the cursed lands.

The Grimmshoard is where the alt event will take place. PCs will have the choice to play one of Three factions. As of late there have been rumors of an uprising of the thralls and some attempt to escape the clutches of Alok Malagan. Some of these rumors even claim that someone on the inside of the underground depths is secretly backing this movement.

The PCs may choose to play one of the following factions:
Thrall
These are living mortals who were abducted by agents of Alok Malagan and kept alive for such purposes as construction, repair labor, and feeding. They are tortured and constantly looking for a way to escape, but the way out is hard to find and the watchful eye of the undead prevent their opportunities. For purposes of this event, all thralls must be sincere in their desire to escape Alok Malagan. They are allowed to carry weapons because some of thier tasks require them to kill.

Undead Servants
These undead are used by Alok Malagan as guards although they are not allowed to kill/spoil their labor/food. If you choose this faction you must be loyal to the undead and cannot choose any good aligned list or witch hunter.

Maldavians
These are the regular people of Maldavia which is one of the small dejected hamlets inside Alok Malagan. People occasionally wander into the town, but can never seem to wonder out. They live under the constant fear that their children will be taken by the undead lords and used as thralls or worse. For the purposes of this event, these are Maldavians who have left the town and wandered into the Grimmshoard. If seen by undead they will be hunted and if captured they will be forced to choose to join one of the other two factions. Lord Ritzerr is a prestigiously known WareRat with a lot of pull around Alok Malagan. Secretly he provides sanctuary for those seeking to hide from the undead lords roaming the Grimmshoard.

As far as sleeping locations are concerned the factions will generally stay in the following buildings:
The Inn (The Feeding Hole) (Thralls)
The Barn Side Room (The Pit) (Thralls)
The Monastery (The Laboratory) (Undead Servants)
Barons Manor (The Dark Estate) (Undead Servants/NPC Undead Lords)
Mages Guild (Lord Ritzzer’s House) (Maldavians)

For the most part all other buildings will be considered empty and abandoned shells of buildings that are there for random use. If need be they will be chosen to be used as overflow if we cannot fit all of a faction in their dedicated buildings. Different factions should not be sleeping in the same building.

If you e-mail your character in ahead of time you will be able to play at 65 spent build. You can play any race and any non-restricted class, but you will be given different template cards altering your stats depending on what your faction is. When pre-making your character you must state your faction and if you wish you may add a couple paragraph synopsis of your character concept/background. You may e-mail your pre-made characters to Chris Goley at: cjgoley@gmail.com You may send pre-made character to Chris until 6pm the Tues before the alt event.

If you do not make your character till you reach the event you will have to choose from templates of 50 build characters.

Thralls or Undead Servants have the option of wearing fangs. Not all always develop them, but it is not uncommon as a side effect of either constantly being enthralled by undead, or by being an undead servant itself. We will provide fangs for any who want to use them.

Depending on how the pre-gens look as they are coming in, we may at some point reserve the right to post that we are capping one or more of the factions.

All three factions may have separate racial stat alteration cards giving benefits and in case of the undead servants detriments as well.

"Any non-restricted class"

Does that mean non-prohibited? Could we, for example, play a Bedouin Druid (without another starting class and paying the 15 Build for the Penalized class)?

Also: What constitutes a good-aligned list? Is it strictly Clerics and Priests of good gods?

Na'ar Chacov, Soul of the Stars.

Ayiri Amexis, Sorceress' Apprentice.
Lupta Tamasa, Torn and Blackened.

Non-restricted means just that. For the purposes of the Alt Event you can play any race/class combination so long as your class is not within the "Restricted Classes" listing.

Good Aligned Lists are Priests and Clerics of the Light. The purpose of that wording is you cannot choose to be an Undead Good Guy.

I do not believe there will be a Fence, however James will comment further if I am misunderstanding. Commodity cards can be collected (and all your Alt. Loot that is NOT on a card marked "Alt Event" or with an expiration date of "Alt Event" is transferable to your main PC!)

I've heard at past Alt Events that you can play your regular character on Sunday, is this true? If so, do we have to pay for our character, and if we don't have to can we make a new character for sunday and would we have to pay to make the new character?

I know that is a very long string of questions. Sorry. :-)

Thank you!

Yes, the alt event portion ends late Saturday night after main mod. After that, you can switch to your normal or a new PC. If you paid to PC the alt event, no, you don't have to pay more to PC Sunday.

Sorry, another question:

During the Sunday portion, can Scholars work on Manuscripts, Tomes, or Codices? As in, does the Alt Event count as a "event" for the purposes of these skills?

Create Manuscript
Skill (Continuous), Creation
This skill allows a character to create Manuscripts. A Manuscript can contain one Lore skill, which the character must know - or she must be able to interview someone who does know it. The character can have a maximum of two Manuscripts in progress at any given time. A Manuscript requires two events of work, and the expenditure (after completing work) of 1gp for materials. You must role-play preparing the Manuscript for at least thirty minutes at each event, including an additional five minutes at each event interviewing someone who knows the Lore skill if you do not. At the end of the second event, you will be given an item card for the completed Manuscript. The character is not required, but may choose to learn the Lore skill as a result of producing the Manuscript, assuming she is logistically able to learn it.

Create Codex
Skill (Continuous), Creation
This skill allows a character to create a Codex. A Codex can contain one sphere or domain of magic spells, prayers, druidic spells, or the complete list of bard songs. The character must know at least two abilities at each rank of the subject matter - or she must be able to interview someone who does know them. The character can have a maximum of two Codices in progress at any given time. Each Codex requires two events of work, and the expenditure (after completing work) of 5gp for materials. You must role-play preparing the Codex for at least thirty minutes at each event, including an additional ten minutes at each event interviewing someone who knows the subject being written if you do not. At the end of the second event, you will be given an item card for the Codex, with the subject now contained in its pages. A Codex cannot be used to teach or learn its subject matter.

Create Tome
Skill (Continuous), Creation
This skill allows a character to create Tomes. A Tome can contain non-combat skills (defined as weapon-use, attack, or defense skills) from one (and only one) of the Scholar, Physician, Smith or Alchemist profession lists, which the character must know - or she must be able to interview someone who does know them. A character can have a maximum of two Tomes in progress at any time. A skill entry in a tome can contain multiple skills of the same track, such as Herbal Recipes, Smithing abilities or Trauma path Physician abilities. Each skill or skill track that is being added to a Tome requires two events of work, and the expenditure (after completing work) of 5gp for materials. You must role-play preparing the Tome for at least thirty minutes at each event, including an additional ten minutes at each event interviewing someone who knows the skill(s) being written if you do not. At the end of the second event, you will be given an item card for the Tome, with the skill(s) now contained in its pages, or you will have an existing Tome item card updated to reflect the latest skill(s) added to its contents. The character is not required, but may choose to learn the skill(s) as a result of producing the Tome, assuming she is logistically able to learn it.

@Matt - Yes, you can work on Manuscripts, Tomes and Codices. The Alt Event will count as an event for the purpose of all skills.

Market Faire
After speaking with James, we have decided that we will make Market Faire Hours available. Please keep in mind the setting of Alok Malagan and the mind-set of the event when preparing wares and food. Your Vampire Lords have allowed their Slaves, Thralls and otherwise to maintain the visage of "civilized life" by being allowed to practice their hobbies and selling their food and wares to the public. Normal Market Faire times will apply.

Build Advancement
You gain build and advancement opportunity for your regular character for playing the alt event.

If you pay the PC price for the weekend you gain +6 build for your regular character and can automatically learn a single skill without a teacher, as per the same rules as the Awards Banquets or Moresca Ball. You will also be allowed to PC your regular character from when the alt plot ends Saturday night. Your PC may still earn additional build for Lifestyle and RP points, and may also convert up to 200 SP to Build, regardless of their current build blanket. Secondary PCs follow the normal rules (i.e. - Pay $20, they will gain full build for the event, as well as any additional build purchased for your main PC).

If you pay the NPC price (which is Free), you receive regular NPC compensation and must follow all standard full time NPC obligations for the entirety of the weekend, even after the switch takes place.

In regards to how events are counted in regards to build, will the alt event count as one of your events(like a normal event) or like the Awards Banquet(which from my understanding doesn't count). In other words, if I have attended 5 events and I attend the alt event and April, would I get 3 build for April(as if it was my 6th event) or 2(as if it was my 7th)?

Thanks and sorry if I didn't ask the question clearly.

In light of thier being too many people making Maldavians at the moment, I am going to make an adjustment to the sleeping quarters. The side room of the Barn will be for Maldavian sleeping, not Thrall sleeping. Thrall sleeping will be the Inn.

The other two factions have thier sleeping quarters already set in-game. Maldavians will have thier beds set up oog, but in-game they do not have sleeping space yet as they are literally just entering into the area at lay-on. They will need to find the in-game contact that will provide them with a safe place to sleep. Since Maldavians are likely to get captured and choose a side anyway, if they end up choosing Thrall, they can stay were they are sleeping and be considered in-game, but if they choose Undead, they can either move thier bed to an undead area, or sleep oog.

Also a more in-depth explanation of the market fair.

This isn't your traditional happy marketplace setting. Even the vampires need fancy clothes, and the thralls basic shirts, so thier thralls etc.. are allowed to continue thier trade to make such things and are allowed to sell them to other thralls so they are clothed. People selling costumes/weapons etc... that can be thier explanation. For people selling food, consider taking advantage of this one time opportunity to sell something gross looking that tastes good, or when you sell that beef stew, label it as "Brain Gruel" or something... we are also feeding undead after all. Try to get creative and appropriate for the atmosphere. As for coin, as like all alt events, you use your own coin, and any coin you make transfers to your reg character.
