Alt Event 2015
“Stonefall”
Life is fast and fun and free; like a leafless talking tree.
In their beds the held-ones lay, molding dreams from colored clay.
Peeking out behind your face; what a most peculiar place!
There are no walls inside this box - no legs on chairs, no keys in locks...
You open your eyes to a strange voice. Why were you sleeping on the ground in the glowleaf forest? Your head hurts. Have you been here before? Everything feels fuzzy - almost empty, like you’ve lost something important. As you rub your face, wiping the Sandman’s dust away, you ponder what it could be. A screech alerts you that the Duchess is distressed over something.
Our masks are all gone! cry the children. Your mask! That was it.
Perhaps Brom is laundering them, or it fell off in your sleep. Maybe the Sphinx Lady can help you find it? You can’t just walk around without a mask; that would be ridiculous! You look around you, and no one has a mask... But why?
It was Berg the Snow Goblin, whispers a terrified tree. What was your name, again?
Everyone wears a mask. Whatever will you do without your face? Furious, the Duchess decrees that no one may leave Stonefall until the masks are reclaimed and the head of the Snow Goblin is delivered to her. Your head is pounding.
Everyone is going to die, says the owl. Or is the loss of your mask already effecting you?
… In the town of Stonefall, the only limit to reality is the imagination of its inhabitants. Those who live in Stonefall wear what is known as an Imaginarium mask, an object which grants the wearer the power to turn her dreams into reality. No one really knows or questions the origin of these masks; it is simply how life has always been. Each unique mask is commonly regarded as the “face” of its owner and many would even consider it indecent to be seen without it. To be separated from one’s mask for too long is to lose a part of oneself. If not reclaimed quickly, those without masks will lose their power to shape their world, and in a short time, the minds of the Maskless will rapidly descend into a dark and dreary state. To Arms!
Announcing the 2015 Knight Realms ALT event!
The setting of this event is surrealistic in nature and is quite out of the ordinary, even for Travance.
When you create your character, feel free to write any kind of bizarre or unusual back-story within the parameters detailed later in this post. You may choose to already be fully immersed in this abstract world; or perhaps your memories are a haze as you experience each unusual thing for the first time, eyes wide with disbelief and wonder.
A list of Who’s Who in Stonefall as well as instructions on how to submit your ALT character will be posted shortly after the March Event.
Character Creation
- You are encouraged to submit a short backstory (no more than half a page) when you submit your character. We may alter it slightly to better fit into the lore of the weekend.
- Though this setting is quite surreal in comparison to regular Knight Realms events, it is still within the same universe. The 4th Wall should not be broken, and Knight Realms does not allow the inclusion of OOG lore or recognizable characters; you are certainly welcome to write that your parents were kidnapped by Space Goblins and the Monkey King helped you rescue them.
- Please do not write your character into a position of power over the other players. You can be Princess of the Moon Kingdom if you choose, but the town of Stonefall has its own established hierarchy and you may not insert yourself into its leadership.
- There is a bit more freedom than usual with costuming this event, but it should still be within the realm of medieval fantasy. Modern technology (including magitech) still does not exist here. Additionally, since all the masks of Stonefall have gone missing, we ask that you don’t include one in your costume. Feel free to cover your face in another way if your character dislikes the idea of not having one!

Imaginarium Powers
Every PC has the ability to story-tell things only that are benign in nature to others. Imaginarium powers are purely for roleplay and cannot be used to trick or impede another being. These abilities cannot be used to mimic the effects of skills with anything more than a minor role play effect, nor can they be used in an offensive manner against any PC or NPC.
Example of acceptable uses:
- “You see a quill appear in my hand as I write glowing letters in the air that say x”
- “A third arm appears out of my back, and the hand pulls back the skin on my face to reveal a perfectly clean skull”
Example of non-acceptable uses:
- “The thing that you fear the most appears in the doorway that you want to walk through”
- “Hands come out of the ground and grabs you, holding you in your place”

Who’s Who in Stonefall
Her Grace, Duchess Dollie of Stonefall (Played by Jen F.) - The benevolent ruler of Stonefall, reigning supreme with a marvelous collection of candies and knick knacks. The Duchess will not rest until Berg is dead and the Imaginarium masks are returned to her people. She leans heavily on her assistant, Lord Derly, for support in these trying times.
Lord Orson Derly (Played by Steve O.) - Lord Derly is the Duchess’s right hand man in dealing with the everyday going-ons of the town. Rarely, if ever, are the two seen apart from each other. Often seen as a man of action and order, at the behest of the Duchess he has begun trying to find “fun” in life. Lord Derly also serves as Stonefall’s Quartermaster, providing weapons and armor for its residents.
The Sphynx Lady (Played by Katie M.) - Lady Sphynx is a mysterious figure within Stonefall. Known to live alone in a hut that moves on giant cat legs deep within the woods, she often is sought for her advice and wisdom. People who seek her know they’ll have to face many trials before gaining her audience.
Brom the Bartender (Played by Tim P.) - The best bartender the people of Stonefall can remember, Brom is an encouraging and helpful friend to many. He loves to listen to what anyone has to say, especially if they sit and talk a while. Brom isn’t the most outgoing of folks, but he always knows what to say to make someone feel better - and what to give them to drink.
Colin Esq., Purveyor of Exotic Oddities (Played by JP) - Colin is a collector of many fine wondrous objects. Everything has a price, and Colin names it. He prides himself on being the owner of the mystery box.
Maestro Knace (Played by Sean M.) - A man who can’t bear to see a frown or a tear, the Maestro will do nearly anything to entertain others. Wise-cracking and often surprisingly insightful, he’s the one to go to if you ever need a laugh.
Sir Tiberius Tennyson The Third (Played by Drew B.) - Knight Captain of the Duchess’s Royal Guard. Sir Tennyson was injured several years ago in an attack on the lands by Berg and now walks with a slight limp. He is still always willing to lend a hand to any who need one and assists the Duchess in making sure her lands stay as safe as they can.
Her Radiance, Princess Charlotte of the Flower Kingdom (Played by Tori T.) - An esteemed guest and friend of Sir Tennyson’s, Princess Charlotte is the kind and graceful ruler of the neighbouring Flower Kingdom. She prefers a less warlike approach than Dollie to solving Stonefall's current conundrum, though her retainers have been missing since Berg’s attack and she is quite distraught because of it.
Berg The Snowgoblin (Played by James K.) - Hidden in the distant snow capped mountains lie the fortress belonging to Berg, the most dastardly villain of all the realm. He is a magical goblin made entirely of snow and ice and he commands all manor of frost denizens to do his bidding. Despite his apparent hatred for all people and all things, those who have escaped his clutches have reported that he is a gracious host brimming with wonderful manners. Over the years he has kidnapped, and held ransom many notable townsfolk, and yet somehow he has managed to do so in the most accommodating and gracious way imaginable.

Just a reminder to keep those submissions coming in, time is running out of you want that extra build. Also the sooner we get them the more time we have to work your backstory into the plot! In case you're reading this on the mobile version and have no idea where to send your character to because the email doesn't show it is logistics @ knightrealms.com
