A quick summary of what's been going on with the KR websites...
Shortly before the July event, the site began to receive a lot of traffic from multiple sources - search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo are always visiting the site, but this seemed to be a very heavy visit combined with unusually high hacker activity from overseas. We attempted to work with our web host to resolve this, but it was like trying to block ants - they just found another way to get to the site and try to get in, overloading the server.
This morning at about 8:00 AM Eastern Time, the attack ramped up in intensity, and completely crippled the server to the point nothing would load. After escalaing with our host, we finally found that they were focusing on a specific page (the Admin page used to control the site). Once this was known, I was able to put a block in place on that specifc page, and fend off the attack.
For now, the sites are all back up and running, and should be running smoothly. I'll keep an eye on the server's load, and hopefully we'll be good leading into the August event.
