Ron has been the Ranger at Camp Sac for over 25 years. The benches and tables were already quite used when he started. As any who have sat on the benches wearing delicate (or not so delicate) garb can relate, there are all sorts of sharp things to snag one's clothing, as they were built with nails, not screws.
My goal is to replace all of the benches by the summer. It costs around $310 to build 8 five foot and 8 two and a half foot benches. Thus far, we have enough wood for 16 long and 8 short benches, with 8 long ones being finished. As we replace some, the old ones will be broken down for parts for the remainder. The most expensive component is the one that is in the best shape, namely the top.
Anyone who would like to "Adopt a Bench" is encouraged to do so. James will see to you getting build or SPs for your contribution, depending which you prefer.
For everyone's information, when the benches are fully upgraded, we will start on tables. Ron (who is a couple of years older than me) and I feel that these upgrades will be the last required in our lifetimes.
Anyone who wants to sand, paint, or assemble things can coordinate with me. I usually go to Sac at least one day per week to do something, and can adjust my schedule to that of others.
