Don't be too worried about dealing a bunch of damage right away. As the knife fighters say: it doesn't matter how the long the battle takes or how the ending happens, so long as you're the one standing at the end.

Yeah, damage isn't the only way to be in the fray. I'm most effective just knocking monsters down so other people can slaughter them. Ask Wulfgar!
