First off.... Hahaha.
Secondly, Jon and I both have Son of Sandlar boots. I dont know if you can get them online but I suggest getting them fitted at a renfair. They are pricey but very good boots and I know a good number of KR people wear variations of them.
Also, my first boots were from renboots.com. They were not as well fitted/ high quality but still nice, leather and much cheaper for a starter pair.

My first pair of KR boots were a nice pair of waterproof motorcycle boots. Not 100% period, but when you have your pant legs down overtop of them, you are good to go.
My second pair, mostly for the summer, since they are not very warm is a par of Minnetonka Moccasains. They come in front lacing ankle or knee high. Inexpensive, but worth it.
As far as a pair that you can have for a loooooong time, Kate's right. Son of Sandlar boots are the way to go. I'm saving for mine :)

The boots I most commonly wear are New Rocks.
www.newrockstore.com/zona1/catalog/
often in the summer I wear simple Black Leather Altama combat boots which can be picked up in any surplus store, or online catolouge.
www.uscav.com/Productinfo.aspx?productID=7631&TabID=548
and as for socks. most people say wool. personally I like wool over cotton. (wool makes my feet itchy) and there are also these which i often wear

.
but thats just me.

If you are gonna take the time, effort, and cash to get a pair that are specifically for LARPing and you want them to last, go with Son of Sandler and make sure you take care of them. They are completely period, durable, come in a variety of styles/colors, and I think are the best you're gonna do without going to Catskill Moccasins (which are the best if you can spend $700 and up on a pair of boots...). I abused mine and never took care of them, but while they don't look as pretty anymore they are still holding up incredibly well after 4 and a half years. If you can't afford Son of Sandler, I honestly suggest getting yourself something cheap (I used to wear combat boots), and continue saving up. Renboots I have heard bad things about, as in they fall apart, but not everyone seems to have had that experience.
Thats my advice anyway.

depending on how much your willing to spend, I got my boots from motorcowboy.com. I've gotten 2 pair from them and they are pretty good. All custom work and you have to be pretty precise with the measurments you send them.

My boots are thin, lined with something sheepy. The are from land's End, pullover, and ok for comfort, but only cost $50. It will be a while before my alt buys anything pricey, since I got the rapier and dagger.

My boots are rocket dogs that I got at a DSW for 45 dollars. They've lasted me a winter so far without much wear and tear.

I have some really nice medium weight wool Woolrich socks that I wear with sandals and Boots that cost around $12-15/pair.

was given to me by an SCA friend of mine, who sang their praises for a good while. Supposedly, they're good enough for the kind of abuse SCA people put on them at the Pennesic War, which from all I've heard is high praise indeed. I have yet to test this, but they do look good, if expensive. I've been eying a new set of boots myself, since my current pair is getting progressively beaten up as I go, but I have yet to make the plunge.

I honestly have no clue about how durable or suitable for KR these shoes and boots are but they look like they are around the right price and i am thinking about getting one of the pairs so you might want to check them out as well.
