I honestly don't see why not. I believe people have used them in the past, and they look a heck of alot more IG than a flashlight, IMO.
Any RMs know if there was ever any ruling against this?

No ruling against it, and in fact we've talked about making a ruling insisting on it, because LED lights are ridiculously powerful. So we would love for everyone to make use of glow sticks.

As someone who is intimately familiar with glow (my sword, my arrows,etc...) long, necklace style glow sticks would make great for Positive Energy Barrier. The only drawback is the more powerful you become, the more sticks you need as it's length increases with your level. The necklace versions also need connectors to join them together. I was thinking of just getting plain glow-wire of a certain length and using that for my barrier (should I ever get the skill anytime soon). I would only have 1 set length, but it's doubtful I would ever need to go beyond a certain point in my creation of a barrier.
For those interested in battery powered glow wire, let me know. If you wish to use glow sticks, which are also good, Charles has that planned. I am trying to stay away from glow sticks only because they can be used only once and then tossed.

The cheapest sticks on the site Matt provided cost 20 cents each and are 1.5 inches long. Figuring a stick every foot for a Positive Energy Barrier. The skill states that "A character can create a barrier that is equal in length to three times her level," which I imagine means three times level in feet, so every level one has will require 3 sticks if using one every foot, or .60 cents, every ten levels will cost $6. A 20th level Hunter will be spending $12 at one stick per foot. Halve that for one stick every two feet (.30 per foot, $3 per ten levels) and for one stick every three feet it is .20/foot, $2 per ten levels. Damn - if Fogrom was a Witch Hunter, he would spend more to put up a barrier than to play, if he paid.
I posted the costs to erect a barrier for two reasons.
1 - It does have a definable reoccurring cost so be prepared.
2 - If it will be a KR requirement to use sticks, then KR might consider providing them, sort of like Spell packets. It might devolve into a matter of economics for a Witch Hunter to place a barrier, if said person does not have extra discretionary income.

The Dollar Store by me actually has Glow Necklace in assorted colors in either 6 or 12 packs, but does not come with connectors. They also only last 3 hours or so...
On the other hand, this might work well for Positive Energy Barriers. Slightly more costly, but reusable.

I know at Walmart they sell glow sticks that are actually a flashlight. They are great because they can be turned on and off so they can be reused, just change the battery and they look like a glow stick. I just seemed to have lost mine. But I imagine that they would sell them somewhere in the camping section maybe.

Tommy, I don't know what happened to your post, but that's weird. It also is probably why people were confused by my post and are thinking that I was talking about requiring glow sticks for Positive Energy Barrier. To correct the record, I was responding to Tommy's (now missing) post about whether a glow stick can be used to represent a light spell. For the reason that Charlie presented (the enormous cost), I wouldn't consider them a good option for Positive Energy Barrier.

I can't find the ones Stacey is talking about at walmart, but here is a link:
www.ravehaven.com/products/Battery-Opera...Light-Stick_513.html
These are great for light spells, and they also work to signify certain effects (they have been used for Spirit of the Dragon, an Advocates True Form skill, etc).
They do use LEDs, but since they are encased in frosted plastic, they are far from blinding and still offer better illumination than most civilian chemical glowsticks.

Then, there are these.

Most glow sticks fade, but these glow at a much higher level. While not as easy as the ones Gavin mentioned (Which work nice, since the tip isn't frosted), they do give a good bit of light when cracked.

I was reading the ones that Tom was talking about and they say something about 5 minutes, so I'm not sure if they last as long as normal glow sticks, due to them being so intense.

Yeah, I've used them before for raves back in college. They litterally last 5 minutes and are EXTREMELY bright. Good for a light spell, but not for any other purpose really. The biggest drawback is that they were extremely costly compared to other glowsticks.

Cyalume makes plenty of quality glow sticks, and they are the company that provides military grade chemical light sources. You can probably find them at surplus stores. You can get decent brightness glowsticks that last 12 hours, and the brightness goes up as the duration goes down. I'm a big fan of the white, half hour duration sticks, but they can be pricey.
Also from a surplus store you can get a glowstick holder that rotates, so the light only shows when you want it too. They should run less than $5.
When all is said and done, however, the battery powered sticks last for some 20 hours if they are never turned off, longer if you use them for short periods of time.
I may be interested in a bulk order from this rave haven site if anyone else is, actually.

Charlie, i strongly recommend EL (electroluminescent) wire. That's the stuff Paul was referring to, and Doug also has a bunch you could probably look at for evaluation. I had gotten one short one (2.5 feet)each for Obes and Brendan to use for their true form cause I thought it was cool and I didn't have a true form :). I love the stuff--and Ebay always has some kind of deal for plug and play kits (this stuff is also for cars, computers, and other crazy lighting applications, but all you really need is a 2AApack and a few feet of thin wire)
just look up EL wire on ebay, or if you're ambitious with electronics and stuff, go to www.coolight.com for some good deals.

I agree, the EL wire is absolutely amazing. It has worked even better than I had expected. The stuff I have is lightweight, long lasting on two AA batteries and can even be coiled to the diameter of a dime without being damaged. I have three five-foot lengths of different colors lighting my forge but they come in much longer lengths.
