Psionisist or Scholar? Help! was created by FleaAdelaide (FleaAdelaide)
I know I said in an earlier thread that I wanted to be a scholar, but since reviewing the professions list, I'm really intrigued by being a Psionisist. Now I'm somewhat torn between the two. Any advice? My first event is next weekend, so I need to make a decision fast.

Why not both?  You can always take scholar later down the line, but you have to start with Psi.

Also remember that you can change your character after your first event.  A Rules Marshal or Officer can help you further with all the clarifications.

Having seen both over the years,

Psions, dispite the joking here on the boards, are powerful jack-of-all-trades caster. Early levels are certainly more inclined to the psionic attack, but as they develop, psions open up to a much wider array

Scholars too are jack-of-all-trades, with the ability to cast any first rank druidic, bardic, magic, or their god's prayers depending on which academic tradition you start with! Any lore available to scholars which comes in handy with some of the modules, if you have it. Scholars are also able to craft scrolls and sell them for a profit, if you want to go that route

Both, as any class, are good choices to start off with. It depends on your play style and the character's motives on what class you pick, and there is always the option to duel class. However, you can't duel class into psions.

Hope a long time player could help!

One of the major differences will be depth vs. breadth.

Psionicists will have access to more powerful abilities as the progress in levels, including the attacks (as noted above) - they will be more useful in a fight, and more "active" in adventuring.

Scholars will have access to more abilities overall than a Psion will at higher levels, but will never be as potent in a fight.

But as Daimen put it, there's no reason you can't be both!
