First, just relax and enjoy the setting and game itself. No one is going to be talking like a Shakespearean actor; few people can even remember the proper use of thee or thou. No one is going to laugh at you because you don't know how to fight; everyone in this hobby started out as a beginner at one time or another.
When you get right down to it, we are all just a bunch of grown up geeks running around in the woods, chasing other grown up geeks and hitting them with plumbing supplies. Which means no one is going to giggle at you behind your back...unless you happen to do something funny; then all bets are off.

To kinda shadow some other statements that have been said, just have fun with it! If you do get confused about something, there's tons of people around who have been doing this for a while and would be more than willing to help you out. Just breathe, relax, and enjoy a weekend full of fun, frivolity and, yes, foam weaponry

Enjoy!

I NPCed for the first 3 or 4 months before I started PCing, and there were others who did it for years before starting a PC *cough* Vince *cough*. And it's free too!

Of course, there's also sometimes the unpleasant realization that its not just someones character who is a jerk, but those are usually few and far between

"Ok we can attack... but if we miss, we'll hit the villagers."
"I'm willing to take that chance!"
Things I am no longer allowed to do in an RPG :
31. The backup trap handler is not whoever has the most HP at the time.
73. Not allowed to name my cudgel Ceremonial Whoopass Stick.
74. My thief's battle cry is not "Run And Live"

While I've never been to a game, I've been on the boards long enough to know that KR is really just a giant family, complete with youngins, old-timers, in-laws, and redheaded stepchildren. So if you tell some of the other NPCs, I'm sure they wouldn't mind going over any qualms you may have before lay-on on Friday, or even that night when you return to the barracks.
The same goes for the players. They're understanding that you may not know all the rules, so if you ask a quick "clarify!" they can roll the effect off their tongue and you both can continue. I'm a little nervous myself, as I don't want to disrupt the fun since I'm an NPC here for the PCs, but I know deep down that everything will be alright!
Though one tip is: Just because someone looks weak OOG (or even IG!) doesn't mean they can't kick your butt IG (or...OOG, too!)

The number one tip I would give: Don't judge people by their in-game personas. Peoples character personalities are sometimes very much at odds with their own personalities
True... I like the Master of Games, but hate Alex T who plays him.

Cabin of the Month
The Celt and Winterdark Tents
Congratulations to both our winners for Cabin of the month! The McKraegar/MacSweeney tent was beautiful to behold, and ended up being noticed enough to find it’s way into becoming both plot points, and battle points (most significantly with the bandits Saturday night). They had even gotten an archery field cleared nearby (with a tree as a target). Jen and Damien setup a "tent" down in the area that is normally the Forge in warmer weather and it looked amazing! They had hangings on the walls and a little table setup with props. All OOG stuff was well hidden and their efforts of creating atmosphere was well received. We salute your diehard tent driven roleplay!
