Hi Dean, my name is Conor and I'm what we here at Knight Realms call a New Player Marshal. It's our job as New Player Marshals to introduce you to the game and help you with what you need to start playing. With that being said.....
There is no problem with having your characters related. There are siblings, and even friends that are part of the same family. Most Celt families in the game are a bunch of friends that came together and wanted a reason, for one or the other, to be related and that was cool.
In the end Knight Realms is usually a pretty open community to ideas on backstory. Unless you are saying something along the lines of "I'm related to the King of X place and number Y to the throne, most things are okay. If there is any question on what's okay, feel free to post here like you did and we'll try answering it, or send our Atmosphere Officer an email at atmosphere@knightrealms.com and she should be able to help you out.

Hey Dean!
I'm Jen, one of the RolePlay Marshals!
I would suggest messaging Silverbow Patriarch (Norm B.), as he plays a high elf in the game and is also a Role Play Marshal.
His perspective might be super handy.
You are also welcome to post in the character creation forums asking for input and we can hash out character RP over there :)

P.S.
WELCOME TO THE GAME!!!

She also forgot to mention he's awesome in and out of game, which really helps.
Now that RP marshals have chimed in, I don't mind adding that I started the game married to my wife's character, and then friends of mine came in as my brother, cousin and brother-in-law. Relationships are fun ways to start with some connection!

Did someone mention coming in as related characters? Cause yeah, we did that. :) Playing relatives is a whole lot of fun, my suggestion is that you make sure you also spend time finding your own niche to an extent, if a family is always together there's less time for them to develop individually. It really works well to all have your times when you're together because family, and times where you're apart because of varying specialisms and duties and such.
Just a thought from a guy who does heavy family roleplay, though, take it or leave it as you like :)

I have a large Romani family (there's 5 of us total) and while we have some objectives that we wish to accomplish as a group and then we all have our own individual motivations and perspectives as well. Roleplaying families is a ton of fun and it's nice to know that you always have someone who is going to have your back. I hope to see you and your sister at an event soon. Be sure to try to find me when you show up, I'm the Pathfinder of the Adventurer's Guild which is for those new to Travance. I can help you find gold, glory, and a healthy dose of peril.

Hi!
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I'm another New Player Marshal and I play a Quinarian as well :) Unfortunately I won't be there in July (or if I am, it will be for a very short time-curse retail jobs and their dependence on weekend hours!), but I really hope I can meet you guys soon!
Norm (Silverbow Patriarch) is absolutely an awesome person to talk to about pretty much everything in game-he was the first high elf I met in game other than myself, an awesome role-player, and really welcoming to new people. There are bunch of us that are all part of one family, the Silverbows (my character married into the line), so coming in with family relations is absolutely fine.
If you have any questions or want to chat about High Elves, shoot me a message and I'd love to talk!

This is just meant as the story it is, not as authorization or a suggestion or anything, but one of my friends established that his character knew ours because he (a Londwyn), kept getting lost in the woods and our family (Barbarians, Dryads, Druids, Rangers, etc) kept finding him and getting him safely to Travance.
