I of course have another question. My friend, the same mentioned above, plans on playing an assassin. I just stumbled onto the section on poisons and writs. Will he be unable to use poisons until he receives a writ? Or can he use them and its just considered unlawful?

The part about writs, poisons and using them is a "find out in game" situation. Anything beyond what's in the Baronial Library is considered in game knowledge, so if you can locate something in there, that may help.

What confused me was how a player starts each game with one of each known potion. Thanks for the information.

To clarify his question, I think he's asking whether MECHANICALLY his friend can use poisons without possessing a writ. He's not asking about the IG lawful implications.

Yes you start your first event only with one of each recipe you know. Beyond that you need to craft them.

Thank you. That is what I'm asking. Since he has no writ at the start of the game can he even carry the potions? If he can use them from the start then what are the repercussions if using them without a writ?
