Is there anyone who might be willing to help a newbie such as me with techniques in KR combat? Much, if not all, of my training in a combat sport (wrestling) is off limits within the game and I do need some help - both for my character and also in order to NPC better.
My character's weapon is the staff and a good number of aikido jo staff thrusts and pokes that I know are off limits, so I need to learn alternative strikes and blocks. But I also need help in dual weapon/florentine as many times during my NPC shift I have had to dual weapon for "claws" and such.
If you can or you can point me in the direction of someone who is good at teaching KR combat, I would very much appreciate it.

Bryan,
I and the rest of the senior Blood Spirits are all fairly adept at the KR version of combat and we have subject matter experts for many styles- to include the ones you mention.
Catch me on site and we can discuss/figure out when to practice.

One of the resident staff users here, though I tend to do much more blocking than hitting. Generally speaking, there tends to be a good amount of sparring on Sunday outside the inn before the hold happens, so it's a good place to practice and ask for tips while also still being in-game!

Thank you all. I will very graciously take all of you up on your offers and I'm very appreciative of those offers. My hope is that this should help both my character and also my NPCing, which will make the game more enjoyable for all.

The staff techniques are actually the easiest to adapt for KR, which is somewhat ironic since I can't use them. I have a staff, but it's non-combat. I use it to lean on because of a mobility problem.
Despite that, I can still help you with staff work if I can borrow someone else's, though we'd have to do it out of game because my healer doesn't know that sort of thing. I can also highly recommend almost any Blood Spirit character as a means of learning, not only for your own weapon but for learning to match up against different types of weapons and styles.
I'll be the tall, grumpy, bearded guy in a brown cloak with brass leaf-shaped fasteners in the Inn this event, probably with a book and what looks vaguely like a chess set with dice for pieces. I can probably point you to different people. (And teach you the game of gype, if you like!) If I'm not there, then I'll probably be back soon, so just keep checking.
To spot a Blood Spirit, check for a red Maltese cross. Not all of them wear it, but it's usually a good bet. You can also go into Logistics during check-in when there's a crowd and ask loudly, and odds are that one will be in there (and if not, someone should know where one is).
(Mind you, I feel like we need a directory of characters.)

I would highly recommend seeing my friend Luis, who plays Quan-Liu or his bedouin character. If you ask for him, he's one of the kitchen deputies. He taught me martial arts when I was younger and he's a great person to look out for when you need sparring tips, this is for the staff training you need.
Cheers,
Tommy
