I think the main difference is that A) we're active and not sitting in one spot for 18 hours,
We're social (Teamspeak only goes so far), and C) We also eat and sleep in that time - in fact, it's a part of the game. That, and we don't require boring grinding and rep farming to get to a boss. We encourage EVERYONE to be involved, regardless of level. 
The once a month instead of every night is a welcome reality check, too.
It's actually a valid question... but one that makes me appreciate KR all the more.
