I know some folks here like to do paintball or lazer tag, or some other fun activity that doesn't involve boffer weapons or other LARP -related paraphenalia.  I am trying to see about setting up a event for thos interested in going to either...

a. a paintball match
b. a lazer tag match
c. batting cages/mini-golf/driving range
d. go-kart racing

If interested, let me know, and I will see what I can set-up and for how much.  I am aiming to find a venue in north-eastern NJ so it's near most folks and it's not a hell of a drive to travel to.

Hello all...

For folks in the Philly area, I'd like to propose a group trip to the Star Trek exhibit at the Franklin Institute:

Any takers?

The thought of Vince not having to call tag skills while he assassinates you is terrifying...

I'm partial to Kayaking, myself.

While I would love to do the ST @ FI, it's in Philly.  I was planning something closer to home, as the trip to Philly would be a long 1 for me, as I'm in NYC.  Maybe some folks can attempt that themselves, who are closer.

Kayaking sounds fun... as I've never tried it and would like to.  Do you have to know how to swim to do it, is my main concern.  I can barely doggie paddle, so if it requires great swimming skill, I'm out.  I can still help plan in if no one else offers to.

I'll go to the exhibit as well, Paul.

Ah, Vince - you are so new school.  When I first played, it was single shot pistols only.  Let's just say tactics were surprisingly like those used in 18th century skirmishes - but with reduced range.

As to kayaking, twice a year Lake Nokamixon (which feeds into the Tohickon, which is the stream at the bottom of the hill on which we live) has a major release, and for two days two times a year its white water time.  Serious stuff, with the right angled turn just past the dam being particularly treacherous.  Release months are March (wet suits) and September, for those interested.

My son and some friends are contemplating a trip through the DE Water Gap in May.
They acquired their paddles :)  At least Seamstress gave him the $20 it will cost, but with no strings, so it can be used for beer, a movie with his GF, or whatever.

Paul Y.  So far as swimming is concerned, one does not need to know how, but MUST at all times wear a helmet and flotation device.  I really would not recommend anything serious unless you are at home moving about in the water wearing a flotation device.  Being able to keep one's head in a panic/pressure situation is very important.  I remember seeing a guy take a 30-35 second rapid (though it must have been a subjective eternity to him) upside down in a kayak in the Grand Canyon.  He was dodging rocks while so doing.  Impressive, though that was not his original plan, I am certain.

Before setting out, you really should practice some rolls with a spotter, because the Delaware has some "interesting" spots.  The Tohickon during release has some class 4s, which are about as serious as one gets around here.

I had less seriousfase kayaking in mind so as many as possible could participate.  Something more social as well as fun.  Every time I've gone with friends it's been without the need of a brain bucket; life vests were issued but soon abandoned once we got down the river... and if your kayak rolled for some reason, you could pretty much stand up in the water or float to somewhere close that you could; Rec Kayaks give you the freedom of leaping out when you need/ want to.

We usually go on the Susquehanna in PA.

Now it is I who gives Charlie random trivia:
the guy who won the first game of paintball ever never fired a single shot. it was a 4 way capture the flag where you had to get a flag from each opposing team to win. And yes, they used the single-shot cattle markers.

Oh, if you are out for a floating beer wagon day, Point Pleasant Rentals along the Delaware has a nice set-up.

I appreciate the trivia, Vince.

Ok, seems like we have 2 seperate ideas people wanna try.  1 is kayaking, while the other is paintball.

Since I am in NYC and not a big kayaking type of person, let's seperate out a thread for that, and whoever wants to plan that can do so.  I will try to see about what it takes for a paintball game to have happen as that's closer to me and I know of a few places.

If you're in NYC, do you want to go karaoke?  xD Or do some of us not play bards for a reason?

Well, for those of us in NY, Jason T. and I have tried this place and found it to be a good deal and alot of fun...

While I like karaoke as much as the next person, the karaoke bars in NYC are somewhat of a rip off in my experience.  Nothing beats the atmosphere of bar karaoke.  I recommend these guys.  They are alot of fun and also based in NYC...

I've done karaoke... much to the dismay of anyone who's heard me.  :D  I try to not do karaoke as most of the venues charge for it, have age restrictions, and/or other things that make it only possible for some folks to go do it.

The best place I've had karaoke is on Sunday nights at a bar named Wicked Willy's.  The karaoke is free and your first song you sing nets you a free beer.

I live and work in NYC, so I know of a number of places.
