As the topic says.

Happy Equinox, enjoy the last few days of the year when the night is still shorter than the day.

Fun Fact: Astronomically, the equinox for the east coast of the US is Thursday (as near as I can gather, that is)

Fun Fact 2: This event marks Witch Hunters being useful slightly more than 50% of the time.  Yay Witch Hunters!

Did anyone else's school/science class make them go and make an egg stand up straight during the equinox? Or was that just mine...

It was tradition, for some reason, to do it on the equinox, as I don't think that it actually affected earth's gravity in a way to make an egg stand up any easier than any other day however...

It's actually a myth - there's no reason why you can't do it on any other day.  Egg Balancing was more of a fertility / birth thing associated with spring.

Ah, knew there was always SOME reason to it...and I knew the gravity thing was bogus. I guess there was some random science explanation since it was always done in science class...Oh well! At least the internets have solved one more mystery ^_^

I could see the myth being a gravitational thing based on the angle of the earth towards the sun... except that the Moon's pull (which causes the tides) is actually stronger than the Sun's, meaning the ability to balance the egg should depend on the Moon's position, not the Sun's.
