Not sure what to make of this...
My understanding is that Marvel gave Madhouse license to re-imagine the subjects (Wolverine, in this case - Iron Man was done pretty faithfully, Blade is next up), and adapt them for a Japanese audience.
I can kinda see the style and clip above working, for a VERY stylized Wolverine. I mean, I like the spiritual samurai schtick, but... Hm. That might be just a bit too stylized. He's supposed to be a fire plug, not tall and skinny.

I saw this at Otakon. While pretty and action-packed, traditional Wolverine it is not. I think it would do better ad its own unique show that had nothing to do with the comic.

At least they are getting closer to the source. Which, even when Marvel did manga back in early 2000s, Wolverine still looked like himself, not a J-Glam Rocker.

While on the topic of comic book related themes, a new Superman animated movie will be premiering in NYC.

A little derailing here,
the first follow up link in on the anime was more entertaining than the trailer... How many of their five facts didn't you know?

Meh, there is a difference between making an IP appealing to a different audience, and completely butchering it.
This looks like any other dark/combat anime, but they tried to hybridize it with comic book action, and the end result is quite under par to what either would be pure.

First Hugh Jackman, now this? Marvel's lost their marbles! Maybe they'll like this in Japan, but it's not going to fly in the States. I would love to see Havok/Wolverine Meltdown done as an animated mini series though...
