Thrift stores in NYC are heavily watched & scavenged fashion hotspots. When word got out that a pair of jimmy choo's boots were found for a few bucks, all the bargain fashion folks started hanging around & hunting the stores in NYC for name brands. Been that way for a while since that Sex & the City show did a thing on it.

Best thing to do, visit thrift stores nearby Renaissance Faires, seriously. The folks in town will buy some stuff, work a faire for a bit and then not know what to do with it. I know folks that have found armor, sandlars and chemises at a thrift store by the Scarborough Faire.
