Weekly Stage Combat Class was created by Mark Rosenthal (Maul533)
Hello Everyone!
My name is Mark, and I choreographed the Knight's Tournament at the Renaissance Faire. Several KR players approached me, and expressed interest in taking stage combat classes with me, and possibly becoming a Knight at next years Faire. I would LOVE to hold weekly classes at the camp (if it's ok with James). We would spend 10 classes on each weapon (to give you perspective, the knights had 6 classes, and their training was a bit 'quick and dirty'), and I would like to end each weapon cycle with everyone performing a fight in the context of a short scene. I was thinking about charging $15 per class (or if you want to pay in advance, $125 for a 10 class cycle), and I would cover several weapon disciplines: 2-handed Broadsword, Sword & Shield, Quarterstaff/spear, Knife, Rapier & Dagger, Cutlass, Smallsword (court sword), and Unarmed (if there's interest).
We will have to start working with boffers until I can afford to buy better training weapons. Most of the money from the first few classes will go directly into that.
If you are not totally sold yet, taking these classes will:
- Give you a new skill set
- Enhance your in game fighting skills
- Enhance your acting
- Expand your practical and historical knowledge of melee weaponry
- Be a fun weekly workout.
Also, I haven't discussed it with James, but I am planning on choreographing next year's Faire, and if you want to be considered for a role as one of the knights, this is a good way to get the necessary skills and for us to get to know each other.
I will be starting at KR this month (September), so if you have any questions, either send me a message or ask me in person (I'm a 6'6" ginger).
At this point, I just want to know who would want to take these classes?

I would be interested, but consecutive weekly classes might be a bit much of a commute.
How long are the classes and which day of the week for the weekly classes?

Once I have enough people interested, I will be asking everyone what day works best for the majority of people.

I have previous experience but it was so long ago that it's probably irrelevant. I'd love to take classes again, and I even have a couple stage daggers I'd be willing to let you use for the appropriate cycles.
