Pendarvin to Host New Day “Nowruz” Festival was created by Fyodor (jjonz111)
Greetings Folk of Travance!
On behalf of Lord Ardin Silverbow, I declare that Pendarvin will hold a small New Day, or “Nowruz” as many Northmen call it, festival to celebrate the return of spring on the afternoon of the upcoming feast day! Lord Silverbow desires that all know merriness and gayety in these dark times. Should our world end in the coming year, at least we might have one more fond memory to take with us into the void.
Food will be available near Pendarvin’s statehouse on the afternoon of the feast (OOC: Saturday roughly 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm). Should spring rains comes, we will do our best regardless.
Additionally, Lord Silverbow has sponsored a number of festival games. Prizes will be awarded to winners. See the other posts below for more information.
Finally, those wishing to disrupt our merriment best take their gloom elsewhere. Those disrupting the festival will face Pendarvin’s justice.
Please come and be merry!

(OOC: A series of hand bills lists the following events.)
The Hunting Hawk
The Hunting Hawk is a game played by young warriors in the North to test their skills of stalking and martial prowess. The game is favored by the young, as those successful in the game often find success in spring love.
Rules
All interested players are asked to gather at 11 bells the day before the feast day (OOC: Friday 11:00 pm) at the Dragon’s Claw Inn. Up one and one half score players (OOC: 30 players) may participate.
1) Selection of Targets
Players will write their names on a small wooden token. Players unable to write their names will have their names written for them. All token are placed into a bag. Each player then blind draw one token from the bag. A player must draw again if they draw their name. A player should not reveal the name written on the token they hold. Each player will be given one hunting talon. Beginning at the stroke of midnight, the game begins.
2) The Hunting Talon
All players must visibly display their hunting talon on their person at all times during the game. Those seen hiding it will be disqualified. Often it is either held in the name or fixed in a waist belt or sash. Players may only posses one hunting talon. A hunter who has lost their hunting talon is unable to capture prey until they find it again. It is forbidden to take the hunting talon of another player.
3) Hunting Your Prey
To defeat your prey you must lightly tap them on the shoulders with your hunting talon and say, “You are my prey.” (OOC: These talons are real, so be careful! Any actual hitting will cause disqualification and likely a rules violation!) This is most commonly done by sneaking up on them. However any method or tactic can be used but the use of magic is specifically forbidden. This includes natural, divine, and mind magics. Arcane magic is twice cursed and therefore absolutely forbidden. (OOC: Non-magic skills are more or less fair game!) Once you tap your prey, they are removed from the game. The victor should claim their prey’s wooden token. The name on that token is their new prey. Should the new wooden token bare their name, the hunter is free to hunt any known player.
4) Winning the Game
The game ends when the remaining hunter turns in all wooden tokens. If this does not occur, the game will end at 1 bell in the morning the day after the feast (OOC: Sunday 1:00 am). All remaining hunters should gather at the Dragon’s Claw Inn at that time. The hunter with the most wooden tokens will be declared the victor.
King’s Rules Sword Tourney
A tourney of swordsmanship will occur around 2 bells in the afternoon of the feast day (OOC: 2:00 pm Saturday) at the Pendarvin Statehouse. All may participate but we may limit fighters if interest is very high.
Rules
• This test of swordsmanship will use the King’s Rules to three touches. No other skills may be employed. The use of other skills will result in immediate ejection.
• Fighters are expected to act with honor. The Lord, or his designee, may eject any fighter for any reason at any time.
• Fighters will use a pair of matched swords when dueling.
• Victors advance to face other victors. Losers are ejected from the tourney.
• The Lord, or his designee, will keep a bracket of the fighters. The last remaining fighter will win the prize and the glory. Initial pairings will be drawn by lot.
Name Day Gift Crafting Competition
First Knight of Pendarvin Sir Hurgar, Regent Fyodor, and Vassal Billiam all will celebrate their name days in the coming weeks. In this game, players are charged to give name day gifts that best represents each of the celebrants. The gift that best represents each celebrant will win a prize! The presentation of gifts occurs at 4 bells on the afternoon of the feast day (OOC: Saturday 4:00 pm) at the Pendarvin Statehouse.
Rules
Should they desire, any participant may give a gift to each celebrant. Participants are charged to craft a gift that best represents the celebrant. Participants are free to use whatever material or medium they see fit. It is considered bad form to give a gift of any real value, but it is not forbidden. Lord Silverbow will judge each gift at award a prize to the craftsman or artisan that best captures the celebrant.
