Fearless

When I was eight years old, he spoke to me
The words of future gallantry.
The fearless man of dauntless heart, a profound loyalist
He of quickened pace who saw no great turmoil missed
A half-filled canvas packed up his kit, set off to war with haste.
Determination, pride, and hope leapt forth, but all had gone to Waste
Golden hues shone o'er the world and baleful clouds departed
Our honored brave lay still for once, in a land still barely charted
A world a way with voices raised and mugs lifted even higher
The lofty mantle of hero, wrongfully claimed, yet naught were called a liar.
