Killing Val'Ixtal Vai was created by Seth (Kurteth)
For the past six or so months, I have been researching the True Warlock ritual. The book. Many of you have helped in the effort, too many to name, and with combined effort we finally cracked it.

We have found a way to kill Val'Ixtal Vai. Or at least, destroy the symbiote as it is.

Troy was burned, months ago, because it held an artifact capable of killing Val'Ixtal Vai, and they knew it. They slaughtered everyone in their way and burned it down, but we were able to get to it first, if only barely.

The Phial of St. Venidene.

It seems merely an empty glass container, but we believe when used properly by one attuned to it, it can completely drain the essence of a creature. In this case: Vai.

The stage is set. Reyna has already spoken of Lightwells, and I urge you to look to her posting for more information on that. We will need as many as possible, these lightwells are like a poison to Val'Ixtal Vai and its shadowy entourage. They attempt to avoid it, and any attack dealing with light, so our research points to.

I do not know how the battle will turn out, but I do have a plan. When the time comes, and the symbiote splits from the host, and they together with Balliol take the field we have to attempt to subdue VIV and his minions within a field of lightwells. We cannot allow them to escape. We have to kill them there, within the cage, dome, or whatever we are able to construct. And when Val'Ixtal Vai is weakened, poisoned by the light, someone attuned to the Phial must use it to drain its essence removing it, and hopefully its minions, from Arawyn.

The attuned are those of us who made the vow at Troy the day we retrieved it.

I do not remember them all, so please list them below if you do and I'll update this.

Attuned:
Seth
Ninnyhammer
Owen Piper
Artalon
Kansas
Dirge

When the time comes, and Val'Ixtal is weak, one of you must use it.

My name is crossed out, because I will not be there. I will be drawing the host away from the symbiote. I cannot allow them to reform should one of them grow weak. I will not allow them to recuperate or regenerate.

Those of you who will be going after the True Warlock and not Balliol, decide who among you is going to protect the attuned.

And of you attuned, decide which of you will do it when the time comes.

Seth

I am one of the oath sworn, and assuming I survive the Maw, will most likely be doing damage control, keeping everyone's minds their own. If none of the others happen to be around, I'll do what needs to be done.

I also have other objectives in the final fight, that will hopefully make the fight easier over all.

Aiki, I will be at Enzarond's throat. If you deem helping me more important than dealing with the Duke, or destroying the Symbiote, then feel free. I'm ending this.

Dirge and Kanas, I have added your names to the list. Do what you believe will best turn the tide of this battle.

I will help with dealing with Baliol himself on the field to keep him away from Val'Ixtal Vai and away from those working on this. It is my goal to see justice enacted for everything that he has done to me, my people, and to others.

Before the fight, however, do not hesitate to call on me if there is anything that I can help with to help prepare. I can't help much with the lightwells other than helping acquire materials, but if there is anything else I will help however I can.

A relevant addendum to Seth's posting from my research: any bright light that would prevent Val'Ixtal Vai from melding into the shadows will counter its ability to regenerate itself. More than just avoiding the light, actively channeling or casting light upon it will hurt it at least as greatly as a venomous creature or a poisoned blade would hurt any of us.

Vai and Enzarond sought after the Phial. Undoubtedly, whatever purpose they intended for it is sinister. Ensure they do not have an opportunity to seize it.

The True Warlock simbiote is demon-related yes? Is silver particularly effective against them?

Ordinarily, a True Warlock (that is to say, the host body with the symbiote) would be weak to silver weapons. If we have to fight Enzarond while the symbiote is within him, silver will be the best option.

However, Vai is a special case. The best I can gather from my research is that Zaril'mask symbiote on its own, outside of a host body, should be treated more like a ghost than a demon. From this, I would conclude it is likely weak to starlight rather than silver, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared with weapons of both types.

My knowledge on these things is very second hand, and indeed is based solely on the information given out on the boards, but based on that I do have a suggestion. If starlight is what will hurt this creature the most, then I believe Artalon has the best chance. He is an emerald dragoon; starlight flows through his veins the same as through mine and the other emeralds. That connection may strengthen his use of the vial. If nothing else, he should be there for the draining attempt to assist, as his attacks would further poison the symbiont.

Everyone on the list has as much right as any other.

If they all agree on one, let them take it.

As for everyone else, I would recommend keeping them alive, and escorting them to and fro the battlefield.

Any are welcome in the fight.

It's just a matter of who can use the vial. That can only be used by those who took the vow.

We will not turn away people wishing to help bring the symbiote down.

I agree with Darius Goldmane. Artalon has held the vial from the first and with the aid of many has found the power of the vial.
I have not made the vow, nor was I at Troy - except at the end helping the refugees resettle. However, I offer my counsel to all those attuned in having Artalon taking this task to its end.
I will protect with my life whoever is given the task of using the vial,
as it means this Val'Ixtal Vai comes to its end. Justice for the sake of the Kingdom must prevail.

My words before were... rough and to direct to the point. And I apologize for that. All i was trying to say is I've held it for so long and have seen its power first hand. I wish to show you that you can trust me to see this task to the very end. It will die and its essence will be taken. All I'm asking is the chance to prove the trust I hope that you all have in me that I have in you.

Tom,

It is being stored in a safe location. Those vowed to the vial needed a place to keep it and we agreed on a place.

Someone more involved can give the specific location if they wish, but I was unsure the overall intent so do not want to break any honor by accident being more detailed at the moment.
