This may be obvious, but the restriction on learning a second class before level 5, would that apply if I wanted to learn the same class twice--such as Cavalier?

Yes, it is the same prerequisite whether it is a second purchase of a known class or a first purchase of a new class.

The prerequisites are based on your overall level - we no longer track Build spent in specific classes.
