If you cant see well at night I would be comfortable assuming your character can't see well at night. Ask for an escort and combine many pitiful light sources into one decent one.
Hopefully this ruling is part of a formula to make the woods at KR a scary place to be again.
An example that I think of immediately when I see just anyone walking around with a incredibly bright light is that of pvp. If my character were to come upon an intended target at night and Ijump out of a bush and start calling damage and as you fall your flashlight presents an undeniable picture of who I am. Would it be metagaming of you to remember my face because it was presented so clearly. Or would it be metagaming of me to refuse to attack someone because they had a good light source?
Another example being that; it may be hard for some people to see at night, but for those of us blessed with good night vision (cones ...rods?) one blink of a flashlight anywhere near me or my face and I am not only blind for the moment but for 5-10 minutes after my nightvision is entirely gone. Is there a way for my character to explain this very real blindness.
Now thats a rant, but I am very happy about this change. Finding in game ways to deal with the dangers of the darkness will present very domestic and casual RP opportunities. Maybe you could make a sweet in game looking torch and offer to guide people to their homes.
One thing regarding light I would like to see change is the availability of light on a nighttime mod sight where combat is either likely or assured. Monster Marshals and Storyteller and Event plot organizers should find among their props for the weekend sufficient tiki torches/candles/glow rocks. Main mod spilling into the woods on a new moon is never fun and often painful.

I have always had good night vision, which combined with good hearing works great for me at night. What I suffer from at my age is a longer reset time when my night vision is blown. My holy light has always been an LED light source, although often powered by 2 AAA batteries.
I agree with Craigm in that if one cannot see in the dark, one should either not travel alone or is SOOL.
