The Good
Friday
*Casmina actually, legitimately getting along with people.
*Hurry-up-and-wait working out perfectly (Hey, we need low levels to... wait, you're already assembled? GREAT! This way!)
* "When I was your age, we had to run through a maze in the rain uphill both ways just to poke a sleeping Beholder...!"
Saturday
*The plethora of cute moments that happen when I play Remi, punctuated by bleating and awkwardly adorable nicknames (case in point: Lambchop)
*Finally making it to a Mage's Guild meeting to discover that they're not all THAT bad.
*Feast, feast, OMG feast. So incredible. I wish I could eat like that every day!
*Remi practically squealing with excitement at Dame Hartwood's appointment.
*Fim's song. I don't think I have ever had a more difficult time staying in character, ever in my life. We got out the door and I collapsed into hysterical laughter. Minutes later I was trying to explain what happened to Diane, and could barely speak coherently. Improv Entertainment = WIN.
~~~NPC Shift
*The Exclusive KR Cuddle Puddle.
*Lots of pretty boys to embarrass
*Getting my back cracked
*Rain with perfect timing
*Those lying weathermen~! Well, I guess I forgive them
*The Snugglecouch, and all those who resided therein. (you know who you are!
)
*Mulled Cider and S'mores. SQUEE!
Sunday
*Watching Gideon flip out at some peasants. It was incredible. and terrifying.
*Sorel the Pokemon. Apollo: "Sorel! I choose you!" Sorel: "Sorel sorel!"
*Tea, politics, and escapism (for Remi... who learned some hard life lessons this event... especially to savor the time she has with the people she cares for, because there's no telling when they'll be taken from her for good.)
*Gideon: One of your horns is broken, Remi. You know, I have a grinding stone....
Remi: But then one horn would be shorter than the other and I'd look special *awkward bleat*
*Some seriously beautiful RP about Magnus (and, FYI Matt, only half of the tears were IG... and I'm sure I speak for more than myself when I say that Magnus's death was devastating... for us, as well as our characters)
*and finally... Remi coming to a solid decision about the path she intends to take, much sooner than she had intended (thanks in great part to Magnus.)
The Bad
*Playing Casmina MUCH less than I had intended, and missing out on important/awesome stuff because of it. This whole balancing-alter-egos thing is pretty difficult
*Attempting to figure out how to teach IG (as this was my first event with Teach...) and only partially succeeding. I hope my students weren't too disappointed- and I promise I'll try my best to get better!
The Ugly
.... I've got nothin'. Seriously- really REALLY great event. Thanks everyone!
I had a great time this event, and finally pc'd a main mod (been npc'ing them up till now and it rocked being in game for one). So, starting with the bad:
Bad:
1) The Rain. Wasn't horrible, but who hates laying in a mud puddle (cept of course, Judge lol)
2) Laaate night npc'ing. I did my best but I know now I can't do the 12-6am shift again. Thanks to Cameron for the 5hr energy drink. Wouldn't have survived without it.
3) Missing all the low level mods..again..because I was smithing so much. Its a trade off. Nice to see that there were low level things going on.
4) Fighting all the way in the deep woods during the beholder part of the main mod, up to the baronial manner when the ward came down, only to find that all but the uber levels had to stay 10 feet away from the matriarch. I npc's were thin but is sucked that 90% of the players just stood around at this point. This was awesome otherwise, see below.
5) Having to still not be at a full event straight through. I've a 3yo son and the weekends are precious. My wife makes it possible for me to make most of these events, but I can't miss an entire weekend with my boy. I miss out some game stuff, but I simply can't miss out on some things with my son. The kid'll be the best armor'ed larper ever though when he comes of age! lol
The Good:
1) Feeling heroic and scared at the same time! Its been a loooong time since I've been one of the new players at a larp game, mostly been one of the epic levels with a feeling of invincibility. I forgot how cool it was to be low level, and have the angst of getting jumped, the fear of dropping or dying in combat. Its more intense when you feel mortality with your pc.
2) Taking on an uber Drow after he shattered my shield when there were three of us at Brazen's hall (and the other two took off for the woods, leaving me alone!). I lit him up a short while later and my pin pricks of hits annoyed him enough to Slay me in one shot. With all my armor, I could soak over 200pnts and he dropped me in one hit. I put this in the 'good' section because it was just a cool moment.
3) Odo, you rock and you know why.
4) Judge, you are sick sick man (no, lol., not the npc, you are!)
5) Finally getting some in game time with Ardentfyre and Dugal (hey..another dwarven smith...finally!).
6) Getting to sit in on the Nobles meeting Sat eve, learn what was going on (had no clue otherwise) and being a part of it.
7) Getting some Cavalier training from Allistair on the way to alerting those at Brazen's hall about the Sat eve missions, then all of us getting jumped by a pack of chaos knights (I think thats what they were, but whatever they were, they were uber), holding my own, and proving my worth as a Cavelier to Allistair by standing with him as the last to hold them off while everyone else made their escape. Having him yell at me "THAT is what it means to be a Cavalier" was a compliment.
Main mod - the Beholder rocked and the dilemma in trying to capture it was a good one
9) Having an in game issue with another pc (well roleplayed!) get turned around to a good thing. Getting threatened by one of the toughest guys in the game and holding my ground (I was getting ready to get killed) was kinda cool, and the two other pc's involved were very good about it all. It could have gone very bad, but it ended well imho.
Looking forward to the Ball, and sad to hear that the next full event won't be till 2010.
Cheers!
Highest light: Yhatzi feast. Superb again.
Lowlights: save lack of sleep, and if I slept more I would have missed some highlights.
Friday: Everything seemed late, but I got in some good RP and some decent fighting. Resolved a long running conflict with Thomas the Wild Mage and we now have a working respect for one another. See Saturday night.
Saturday morning: Cooking breakfast is always enjoyable.
Market Faire was enjoyable, especially as I had someone selling my stuff. .The food available is wondrous in both quality and variety.
Being able to use my ability to detect forgery for the first time.
Main mod - WOW - the town finally got it together so far as organization was concerned, and as a result we garnered an important victory.
Team Drega'mere rocked. We were compact and strong. Rob directed us as a good field grade officer should. Direction and not micromanagement. We knew enough to concentrate on one foe at a time, preferably from all sides.
Running to save Seamus with a psalm of Gaia's Embrace while Thomas protected us. Seamus and I able to work together even though we do not get along. Again, some good RP with Cooper and Rob.
Combining with Ardin to smoke a bodyguard Drow and finding a sweet sword.
Judge mincing as a core nvincing woman/Chastel. Judge was great all around,
Will post more later.
The Bad:
Missing people who suddenly came down with sicknesses.
The Good:
Fri:
Hooka with the Yatzi's
RP with Ming and the Gypsies
Learning that running away is my best skill.
The Dryad calling me a Demon and then attacking me in the inn.
Beating myself up/lamenting to Vincent how I'd killed Felicia a half hour ago, only to have her come up behind me, and give me a hug. Thank you father Edwin.
Sat:
Market faire wonderful as always.
The Haphazard Scholars meeting/feast.
Running from a beholder, and then chasing it. NEVER have I been so scared of LED lights! I felt as though it was a real beholder
Sun:
Waking up early and hearing of the deaths.
NPC Shift:
Farmers with Dysenteri (SP?)
Goblin Pirates (We want your brycks and your keys!)
Angry Townsfolk and an Angrier Gideon
NPC Troll vs. PC Ogre. Ogre won.
Final PC stuff sunday:
Lessons with Father Osred most enjoyable.
Gideon teaching me to scribe scrolls by rooting me to the ground, and charging me, making me cast at him. Favorite Highlight
I've had spells for three events, and Gideon made me cast for the first time to further myself. I guess growth and learning does make you have to step outside your comfort zone.
And I almost forgot: Jack The Bard!!!
The sweet taste of victory over the Drow turning to the taste of ashes after learning of certain Church matters.
Glad there is now a good, deep Church sub-plot.
Hand in hand with the above, excellent RP with those clergy present.
Mike Smith (as Osred, after the scene was over): Why does Osred always wind up standing no matter where he starts a scene?
