I'm looking to dip my hand into doing leatherworking, and was curious if anyone could reccommend a place to go to get the thick leather to work with. (I am on a tight schedule otherwise I'd order it online.) Thanks in advance.

I don't know where you live, but Tandy Leather here in Allentown has some nice leather for sale. They have a huge assortment of sizes and thickness, and cater nicely to LARPers and SCA Armorcrafters.
