I am an OOG friend of both Paul and Susan Shaffer, having met at a conference in Las Angeles. I am an Australian, sadly not many LARP's where I live, in fact research confirms that they are either less action-based, or science-fiction/horror LARPs which I dislike.
I hold a very special love for fantasy of many kinds, enjoying computer games like Quest for Glory and Kings quest. I attended my senior prom in a fantasy shirt and cloak.
I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons, and have a very open mind. I hope to be travelling soon across to America to meet my fiancee's Virginian family and as a result both of us are planning to attend a KR event with much anticipation.
Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the KR forums! It will be wonderful to have you and Kathryn attend an event! We have a good number of Celts, so Kathryn's thick Scottish brogue will be totally In Game.
Can anyone from KR remember if there's ever been someone attending from Australia? How about Scotland? Thanks.

So cool to hear that you want to come. Let me know when you and Kathryn can come and we will make sure to take you to an event. You both will love it.

I have a few questions. First of all, next year around July/august me and Kathryn are planning to travel to the states to meet Kathryn's cousins there, and go to the conference (Suzi Knows). What dates are the events at that time so we can plan around that?
Character background question 1
Are there other pathways across the rift that may be unknown at this time or is the rift gate the only path across?
Background question 2
Dark elves....Are they relatively common around the Kormyre area? as in an attack maybe once or twice a year?
FINAL question to do with character selections
How does literacy work? In the ranger/druid areas, I can see advanced literacy as a valid skill, but not literacy.

Literacy (Continuous)
Literacy allows the character to read and write in the common human language.

^ Currently scheduled event dates
Character background question 1
There are other ways to cross the rift but 99% of all characters come through the rift gate at some point in their life and generally is the only way people come to Travance. Other ways are possible but are very rare and must be approved in your history first.
Background question 2
I would say it is safe to assume that Dark elves make attacks once or twice a year in some fashion. Those attacks are likely more raiding partys then full military actions. Anything past that i'd say you'd have to find out in game.

As me and Kathryn both will probably be flying into the US of A from Australia, we will need to have the dates ETC for 2010 (My god, it's full of stars)
Hopefully we'll be coming to the july event that year, but maybe to the june event IF possible. Kathryn does have family down in Virgina after all.
Anyway, boohoo to me here cause there aren't very many LARPing groups, or even very many DNDers....Sigh....
Show them all *mutters madly* open my own guild *chatters wildly* make it compatible with KR rules *screams and flies into the dungeons*

quite expensive too, and because I will have just been married... Sigh.
In other words. Blast it all. I can't do anything there and I can't find a SINGLE group over here apart from the SCA which doesn't do much in that way.

Essentially I would probably be coming over to the USA for around 2 weeks, followed by at least a week in Scotland (work permitting) around the july period of time.
Bookings I would try and make at least 3 months in advance if not 6 months (I do want to see all my dear friends again) and I would probably bring over my only garb and mah longsword. (42 inch latex ringsword done by Lrpstore). I've bought over dodgier looking stuff hehehe.
Anyway, sorry to make a big fuss out of things, but as this is quite big for me!

Cabin of the Month
Eric Daniel Malave
Cabin of the month goes to Eric Daniel Malavé's, otherwise known as Otigiri, bed! The tower cabin had a lot of people sleeping in it this event, just like every other room at this campsite. It is hard at this place to make a space your own, but he managed to do it. He brought more decorations to put around his bed than everyone else at the campsite combined. Great job!
