Hall of Fame Phillies Announcer Harry Kalas died yesterday. The Phillies, in a tribute to him before their next game, each lit a cigarette int he visitors dugout (Kalas always had one after the game, along with afew beers until the last few years).
Anyone alive and who listened to Phillies baseball (except for the 80 world series) heard, after his "Its a long one. Its outa here. Home run number XXX for Michael Jack Schmidt." Heard it four times listening to a Cubs game, and twice at Shea on Banner day, when appropriately prepared we had "Bull Power" and "Schmitty Smokes Another," making us prescient as they each homered.
