If laws are pointless, wouldn't you have just broken the law and tack it on that other piece of paper?
Surely, to those who the law is pointless to, especially one who follows Malyc, breaking someones order would have been such an easy thing to do.

How marvellous! From what you've written here, I am irresistibly tempted to extrapolate that you, yourself, are a worshipper of the deity Malyc. Are you likely to be staying in Travance for any significant amount of time over the next few weeks?
