Jackdaw,
If that was your plan, know that the Alchemist only appears behind the mask of his golems. He would not appear in person to your challenge.
Midori,
If you would like a complete accounting of everything this individual has done I would be glad to explain to you in detail. There are a good many reasons why I despise him and everything he stands for, not the least his nihilistic disregard for life and misuse of power. He creates his 'children' and sends them out against Travance--to die--to further his own experiments. He is a despicable individual.

The one thing I would like to know is do these homunculi have a soul?
It is a question that those I ask can't answer.
If they do, where does this soul come from?

Now I've had very minimal interactions with the father and his creations so I can't really share much of an opinion on the matter of his work and these homunculi. However what does attract my attention is the philosophical implications of his work, and how they affect the idea of life. This is merely me speaking (or writing) on an intellectual level, and not showing any specific favor of his work.
Merihk, I was actually present one morning when the "soul" was being examined and even managed to aid slightly in testing it. From what was discovered it seemed like it was made artificially from numerous different ingrediants and objects from numerous different sources. I cannot say how it all came together, or how it was collected, but I can say it was very philosophically interesting.

Merikh,
If you would like, when you are next in my proper, I can share with you the details of how the homunculi work.
They do in fact have a soul. It is an artificially created soul, created through alchemy. But a soul nonetheless. It does not matter where a soul comes from, but rather what a being does with it. And the homunculi that are capable of sentient thought have shown themselves to be kind and just people.

Given you follow the God of Death, I can understand your interest Merikh. However, the soul is the province of Galledell, rather than Galmachis. But it is a good question, in any case.
From what we understand the Homunculi were created with a soul arising from an artificial act of alchemy. They do have a soul, but it is not one naturally manifesting on Arawyn. This places the homunculi in an awkward position, betwixt the Light of Spirit and Dark of Death, for their creation mocks both.
It does mean however, that the advanced homunculi are innocent and capable of free will. They did not choose their own creation. That is the sole province of this Father person.
