Rules Update: Common Knowledge was created by Ardentfyre (Ardentfyre)
All Professions and Races are common knowledge.  A PC may choose to know less if they wish, but everyone may choose to understand what each of these things are.  This does not allow someone to observe a skill from any of these lists and point out what it was, but rather the general traits of that race or list - everyone knows Ogres are strong, and High Elves are resistant to Negative Energy, Swashbucklers are finesse fighters, and Chaos Warriors are crazy.

Higher Lists, while posted on the website, are secret and well guarded organizations that must be learned about In-Game.  Very little is known about them, but rumors are spread about all of them, all characters know they exist but nothing about their capabilities.

A character with a Lore skill appropriate to a race, list, or skill (such as Lore: Gypsy, Lore: True Warlock, or Lore: Magic) may identify a skill as it is being used and the source that used it, rather than just the general traits of that race or class.

Example: Farmer Fred sees a High Elf throw a fireball at a Troll.  Fred would know that High Elves in general are inclined to use magic, but would not know the specifics of the exact spell that was cast.  With Lore: High Elf, he would know that High Elves have a bond with the Weave that allows them to cast more spells, but still not know what spell was cast.  Lore: Magic would allow him to know that the specific spell that was cast was Inferno, from the Fire sphere, and that it was cast by a Mage (as opposed to from a scroll or an item).

Does this mean you identify the specific source, as in Joe Warlock just used Bestow Nightmare on me; or do you simply know that a True Warlock used Bestow Nightmare?

If Guy Scholar had Lore: True Warlock and witnessed Joe Warlock use Bestow Nightmare on Tobar he would know Joe Warlock used the True Warlock ability Bestow Nightmare, and thus Joe Warlock would likely be turned into some kind of gooey substance pretty quickly.

If Guy Scholar witnessed only the effect, such as if Joe Warlock was around the corner, then Guy Scholar would only know that Bestow Nightmare was used on Tobar by a True Warlock.  Joe Warlock lives to see another day.

How does this interact with things like Truth of the Gypsy?

If I use Truth to tell a lie, can someone with Lore: Gypsy immediately identify that I used a skill to obfuscate the truth?

Adversely, does this stop everyone and their sister from saying "We know Gypsies can lie and not be detected" every single damned time someone truth checks us?

Keep in mind that even if this is true, there are certain PCs that absolutely despise gypsies and can not be persuaded to believe a gypsy is telling the truth ever, even under truth detection. I know at least 2 of these people.

This is pretty much the idea that most PCs should have about Gypsys regarding their ability to lie.

If I use Truth to tell a lie, can someone with Lore: Gypsy immediately identify that I used a skill to obfuscate the truth?

Truth of the Gypsy (Periodic)
This skill allows the character to tell one lie in response to a skill, spell, or ability that compels her to speak the truth or that detects the truth. This effect can only be used to avoid speaking the truth concerning one question, if the interrogating ability allows for more than one question.  No matter how many methods or instances are employed, the character using this ability is immune to answering the resisted question truthfully for a duration of thirty minutes – even if asked by a different person.  The person using the detection ability believes that the character has made a statement they believe to be true (even if is blatantly not), and that their skill or effect has worked properly.  There is no way to detect that a Gypsy has lied in such a way, including knowledge gained through Lore: Gypsy.

Fixed, however, someone with Lore: Gypsy would be aware that a Gypsy would have the ability to do such a thing, so they may have different ideas on how to approach the subject.

I made this change to the Bard song Riddle of Deceit as well.

So just to be clear, since it's come up in the past:

A common person would know that gypsies are shady and proficient at lying / cursing people.

A person with Lore: Gypsy would know that gypsies can lie through truth detecting abilities and can curse someone with “The Trickster’s Jibe”.

Is this distinction correct?
