Unless you're thinking of something else, sternos are only really worthwhile if you have the chaffing (sp?) dishes to go with them to hold the food.

They're small round containers with this blue gel that burns and keeps things hot for periods of time. Caterers use them. That's not a sterno?

They need special dishes above them to distribute the heat, or else you get a really hot spot above the flame, and it burns the contents (and is a pain to clean up - personal experience, trust me...)

Sterno is the brand name for the most common gelled wood alcohol, sort of like Kleenex for tissue.

Kristen is correct about the need for a chaffing dish, which is usually a set-up consisting of a steamer tray under the dishes to be warmed.  I spoke with James and assuming the setup is correct, and you have a table cover/cloth, no problem.  You do not want to jury rig  the set-up, but they are available as rentals from most places.

I have 1.5 boxes of plastic flatware (all 3 kinds) to bring.  Charlie, I'll verify exact amounts when I get home tonight.

Are they the clear kind, which look sort of good.  We try to stay away from the white "everyday" plastic for the ball.

We need 150 forks, to be safe and half that amount of spoons and knives.

I apologize, but I must remove my offer to bring my sweet chili.  The logistics of making it have become more complex as my schedule for this week becomes increasingly full.

What is the earliest we can come and drop off food? Want to bring cooked bits and uncooked bits, combine and cook in crock pot for at least 2 hrs before serving, is this feasable?

You will want to, and can get there around 3:45pm-4pm and set it up.  Feasting will mostly likely not begin until 6pm.

We have a deal... and I did get the name wrong... it's potatoes au gratin

So 3 large dishes of this sound good?

This will be my first Moresca Ball and a concern occurred to me. I was told that the food is done buffet line style. Are there different areas for vegetarian and non vegetarian food and/or is there some sort of opportunity for vegetarians/people with restricted eating habits to take from the food they can eat before the general population descends on everything?
I almost never speak of special consideration for those of us with pickier pallets but I'm sure I'm not the only one who saddens at the thought of getting to the spread only to find my options being 4 pieces of cheese, some bread and a mushroom.

Considering the great prevalence of crockpots and hotplates that I imagine will be in attendance, would you like extra power strips?

Extra power strips will not hurt. Thank you!

Ashley, it should be fine. Sit near the door, during the ceremony, so you can be first in-lne. ;)

alright... due to kitchen restrictions I was unable to cook the bacon for the taters o' grotten with bacon (I know I spelled it wrong) but I was forced to either cook the bacon or let the chocolate be prepped for truffles... and personally I have never put bacon into these dishes before so I opted out to help with making the truffles.

I will be bringing 2 dishes of potatoes au gratin, along with shane (seamus) bringing them truffles and shepard's pie, and my sister (IG the new dwarf healer) bringing her stew... between the three of us we're bringing a bit o' food

once again I apologize for the lack of bacon

Just an addition. I'll be bringing heavy duty plates for the meatloaf and side dishes. So, if you want a more space, now you have it.

Also, I'll be bringing SOME extra tins for leftovers.
