I got this friend was created by Gentleman Jas (Gentleman Jas)
He wants to make a Mage who uses the sphere Necromancy. Now I know that undead things are kill on sight and always considered evil. So His question to me was if he did go Necro would he be killed on sight as well? If so let us say he manages to keep his sphere of magic a secret from those who would wish him harm How does he go about learning new spells? Are there even other Necro Players that can teach him or will NPC's be brought in? He also wants to know if he could bring a friend of his to NPC the entire event and at night use him as his pet once he learns how to call up the undead. thanks for your help on this.

That link, while meant for rogues, works jut as well for anyone playing an evil list.  Necromancy itself is considered evil, so I think he might want to take a look.

So His question to me was if he did go Necro would he be killed on sight as well?

If you took a look at the laws of the barony, it plainly states:

None shall practice Necromancy.

Whosoever breaks with this law shall be publicly executed, shall be stripped of all belongings, and upon the decision of the Baron may be exiled or obliterated.

So it might be in his best interest to be less than vocal about his choice in mage sphere choice.

If so let us say he manages to keep his sphere of magic a secret from those who would wish him harm How does he go about learning new spells? Are there even other Necro Players that can teach him or will NPC's be brought in?

I can honestly tell you that would have to be a 'Find out In Game' scenario.

All I can say now is good luck to him.  :P

Don't start as a Necromancer. You'll die, most assuredly.

Correction Rob...

Don't start as a Necromancer, and talk about it. You'll die, most assuredly.

If you are not dumb about it, it could be interesting.

Being anything that is Kill On Sight is much easier when you have a cover of some sort.  Because very, VERY few people in Travance are "just farmers" or such, sooner or later someone will pry into how you survive goblin attacks, or what use you are to the town (or to them).  If you're a K.O.S. class, you will need to lie (which only goes so far), be found out, or have a good cover in the form of another class, or another sphere of magic.

Travance is a very dangerous town, and no one in their right mind would choose to live there without some sort of skill to protect them (i.e. - a PC class).  Claiming to be a commoner will be met with skepticism.  Having a cover class, that you can actually do, will help you survive long enough to pick up the more evil skills you want to.

And as Dave said - DON'T TALK ABOUT IT.  Not even OOG.  Things get overheard accidentally, people slip, and even an honest mistake can't be undone if heard at the wrong time / place.  Playing an evil PC is a challenge because of this.  The Staff & players will do their best to be fair, but make sure you read up on the policy on PvP before you choose a class that will land you in it.

This is especially an issue in logistics, where people on their NPC shifts are often present for the behind-the-scenes of shifty IG dealings and then don't have the courtesy not to run their mouths about it.

Anytime that you use IG information that you know OOG, but your character does not know IG you are meta-gaming. Any player found to be meta-gaming will receive a Rules Violation and any outcomes of the incident will be reversed.

You can quote meta-gaming rules all you want... but once something is known, it can't be unknown, and I think it takes a VERY skilled person not to let such knowledge creep in even a little bit, not necessarily enough that you would use it in taking actions, but at least as a little thought that's always sitting in the back of your mind.

Anyway, the crux of this is: If you don't want it known IG, you're best off leaving it unknown OOG.

And logistics NPCs, if you do overhear something, STFU!

Meta-gaming ruins characters, complicates plot, bogs down the game and ruins relationships from acquaintance to friend.

I have seen it and been a part of it.

Don't do it!

That is all.

In regards to meta-gaming and "don't talk about it OOG": KR is supposed to be 24/7 IG at an event. That said, many of us occasionally slip into a little bit of OOG chatter, especially concerning the game rules. If you're OOG talking about necromancy spells, even for a few seconds, and someone walks by and hears it, how are they to know it was OOG talk? Innocent mistakes can cause far more damage than purposeful metagaming (which can usually be seen for what it is pretty quickly).

The easiest solution is not to talk about rules while in an IG area. ;)  If that can't be avoided, make sure you indicate as clearly as possible that you are OOG - White headband, weapon over head, etc.  Speak using distinctly OOG terms (such as "Vince, I have a rules question" instead of "Lethias, do you know anything about Necromancy?").

If at all possible, move yourself to somewhere out of the way, such as Logistics, or an open area where you can see people approaching you if you need to have that discussion.  Sometimes it's not possible, but choosing to slip OOG and talk about the rules at 4:00 AM in your cabin while a townsmember is walking by outside is a prime example of why it's a good idea NOT to do that. ;)

Frankly, I believe none of this... whenever someone says "I got this friend...", it means they wanna hide that it's them that has the STD, is cheating on their spouse, got an issue, etc...
