Nine words women use...
1.) Fine : This is the word women use to end an argument when they are
Right and you need to shut up.
2.) Five Minutes : If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour.
Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more
Minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
3.) Nothing : This is the calm before the storm. This means something,
And you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing
Usually end in fine.
4.) Go Ahead : This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
5.) Loud Sigh : This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement
often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an
idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing
with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)
6.) That's Okay : This is one of the most dangerous statements a women
can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard
before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
7.) Thanks : A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just
say you're welcome.
8.) Whatever : Is a women's way of saying F@!K YOU!
9.) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning
this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but
is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's
wrong?' For the woman's response refer to #3.

I find that I have a tendency to say, "...Fine, whatever."
Which usually insinuates some kind of approaching train wreck.
But I do usually get ready to go out pretty fast!
...Seriously.

Im going to get up on a soap box for a moment here and say that more couples , married or otherwise should LARP together.
Its really hard to keep a secret from a man or woman who knows you go on pretend adventures wearing latex ear tips and or a cape.
And I think it builds confidence and trust better than anything. If you respect someone enough to watch them make an absolute mockery of themselves pretending to be scared of a werewolf once a month then you have something there.

Theres no easy way to tell a girl your dating that you like to play live DnD in the woods once a month.
I tell them I belong to an acting group. By best friend calls it Knight Camp.
But Quagz is a fantastic lier.
what do others tell people.

Someone told me "camping" because it sounds boring, and then people don't ask questions.
The people I work with thought that it was awesome, and were just fuuull of questions... like, "Wooow, in January? Who do you go with? Where you guys gooo?"
You know what works?
I'm just hanging out... with some friends. In New Jersey.
Not in the woods, at all.

At my old Job, I happened to be working at the same place as Lisa Hill. She told everybody she worked with about it. Eventually they found out that I did it too. So many annoying embarassing questions.

Hilarious.... I love the list. Although, 5 more minutes for me usually is 5 minutes....unless Im sleeping....
I too went camping for years until I finally gave up. I call it KR, they say okay. Usually every 3 months or so they ask me to explain what it is again. Then it is called "That thing I do on the weekends, yeah thats the one."

The list is very appropriate. And yes I also say camping. Ben used to tell everyone at work about it, and would occasionally get the latex weapon delivered to work. But after a long talk, I still say camping, and if it must be discussed at work, its done so quietly and with as few details as possible. Plus I'm pretty good at lying about the questions

I've rarely ever had women use the 9 words on me... but most of my relationships have never been so long term that those 9 would be used.
As for what I tell folks... I tell the whole truth. Sure some folks think its weird while others mock... but if there are such a thing as female larpers, then male larpers isn't so odd or such a turn off, I think. We have couples and married folks here... so larping can't be any real form of negative quality that would make a prospective mate turn away. If it does, then that person would never have understood you in the first place... I think.
Of course, as I said before, I've never been in any real long term relationship, so maybe I'm just whacked out of my mind and have no idea of what I am talking about.

I think its easier for a girl to get away with KR than a guy. I usually start with the "camping" excuse, but then I gauge the person I'm with and it either becomes "reenactment", "improv acting troupe", or the full out truth of here's the website and look at me dressed in a bodice. The people I tell never seem to have an issue with it, and are either fascinated in a distant way, or end up coming (see long list of people I've brought to KR...)

Yeah, I'd have to say the five minutes to a half hour thing is a bit exaggerated, though when I'm feeling particularly floofy and primpy then I guess it could be a half hour. I think...five minutes is probably closer to 8-10 minutes to me. Not too bad.
With my non KR friends its Larping (much to their hilarity), at work it's camping. I tell them when I go to anime conventions and dreamation and stuff, but it's too much explanation to explain KR to them. Meh!

I work with a guy who is in SCA and he posts pictures of himself in plate mail on the companys internal website. So I was able to give a brief explanation of KR and show some pictures without too many weird looks. Might be bringing one or two coworkers to an event sometime in the near future.

This list is so true...
And I just tell people I go larping then they are like what's that. My reply is I go into the woods one weekend a month and beat my friends up with foam weapons as we act like fantasy creatures. That usually ends the conversation real fast.

I was once stopped and searched by the police once. When they pulled my boffer weps out of the car the one cop was like "What the hell is this thing"
I was like "Sir, Its a long story"
He told me to explane
so i told him " I play live lord of the rings"
They let me go as soon as I said that.
they figured I was probably a harmless a nerd and there was no reason to continue searching my car.

I've had some many occasions of those nine words being used. Even in the short term relationships i get a lot of "whatever"'s. Not that I'm particularly surprised. My favorite combination is the conversation that starts with "nothing, everything's fine", then esculates to "sure, fine, whatever."
I tell people I spend a lot of time in the poconoes and if they persist I tell them I beat nerds with pipes in the woods. And enjoy improv acting. Eventually they find out i dress up in a stupid looking outfit and enjoy D&D.

I find I am usually diplomatic enough (with people I care about) to avoid the nine words. It helps that I do grocery shop, clean, and cook. I am very family oriented. Also the wisdom of Tim Allen helps- "I have no opinion"
I just say I am going to a friends house to party. I won't even mention this to people unless they start going on about WoW, DnD or comic books.

Man, you guys need to get over the embarassment thing. If you love it, don't be ashamed of it. Is getting hammered in a bar a much more glorious way to describe what you do in a weekend?
My alltime favorite though is Judge and Matt G using their character names for the Star Ledger interview. I crack up every time I think of a quote from 'Akhillaious' and 'Garrison'.

I use the camping excuse at work, and have been ever since I started going.
However, it's always fun explaining injuries when I get back. Like after this past event, I came back completely sore with my knee cut open and a black eye. My manager freaked out and asked me what happened. I told her I was camping and that didn't cut it. So I just went with, "Uh, my friends and I played 'See who we can trip on the ice.' I lost." That pretty much worked.
