I don't like this at all.

Warner Bros doesn't influence DC like Disney might.

What with their image and all.

Maybe or maybe not.  It honestly depends on who's in charge of their relations.  It could be a good move on both their parts, or it could end with a horribly deluted and childfriendly version of the characters we've grown to love.  Disney honestly owns a ton of darker stuff, so unless whoever's in charge wants to lose a lot of money in Marvel, the most it will probably result in is a ton of merchandise and a few X-Men at Disney parks.

I'm hoping they do the whole "We own you, but you guys basically run yourselves and business will continue as usual" kinda deals. Remember, Disney has their hands in MANY pots (including other tv networks like ABC and ESPN!), so...here's to hoping!

(and I second there being new attractions at Disney Land/World, even if it's just hotties in Marvel outfits)

Move over Sleeping Beauty & Cinderella... make room for She-Hulk and Black Cat?  Hhm...

I know DC does well with it's direct to DVD movies of their characters through the WB Animation studio... maybe the same will be said for marvel Comics animation movies.  A PIXAR version of the Avengers can be fun.

I'm hoping that the one good thing that might come of this is more really good Marvel movies.  They do have the backing.

My roommate just said something I wish she hadn't....

She suggested now that if they make another Kingdom Hearts game, we might see Cyclops and Nightcrawler alongside Sora and Donald  ><

Quagz is right.  Pixar movies, while awesome, aren't Marvel compatible.

Disney does own Touchstone, however... not that Marvel needs too much help getting things to film these days.

I'm more curious how Marvel is going to have fun with this.  They have a pretty good track record of being able to make fun of themselves.

I'd hardly compare the FF to the Impossibles, unless you count the Storm Siblings as the kids. ;)

Well, they had all the same powers with the exception of no Human Torch character (though Dash was of similiar temperment).  They also got the family dynamic right which they utterly failed at in the live action films and they also copied the gonzo science feel of earlier FF.

I was thinking of only the technology... PIXAR could leverage the use of their CG tech for a very high quality Avengers film.  FF and the Incredibles are a nice example... but what if you took the image/design/directing style of McG, the art design of Romita, and the visual/photography of PIXAR and combined them... could be good.  PIXAR is known too much for it's kids stuff.

What I'm wondering is how hard Disney/Marvel will lobby to get film rights back from all the characters they sold off to other studios.  Right now the rights for Blade, Wolverine, Deadpool, the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spider-Man are all with various other studios that aren't Disney or Marvel.  I wonder if they will fight hard to regain those rights?

If Disney wants their 4 Billion back any time soon, they should.

Depending on what you read, Disney bought Marvel just so it would be an asset of the company. That's it.

Consider this: Disney is clearly aimed at a younger crowd, once they get old enough, money coming in from this group drops substancially. After the ghost town at SDCC (I know, didn't think they were even there) last year, Disney saw their future was to expand their image to be for all ages.

The Wii Horror/Steampunk game, and recent games that I shall not name, show the company isn't for little kids anymore. And who better to push that point with than a comic book company.

in refrence to what i have heard about the various characters that marvel had "sold rights too" to other production companies..(WB, Sony, ect.ect.ect.)  the deals for said characters rights were NOT for the entirety of the character. but only for "the right to use said character in various productions and the like under the supervision of (at the time marvel) and now apparently disney via the marvel crew that they (i believe) are keeping. and again at the time marvel would recieve X for the sale of "right of use" (NOT ownership) and marvel would also recieve Y% of all monies earned from said use of a given character.

that is atleast what i have garnered from listening to NPR

Because the Pirates movies didn't have ANY smoking or drinking.  Nope.  None.

I don't mean to single you out at all, Alex, but this is my comment for all the naysayers.

Disney also owns ABC, ESPN, several publishing companies, and owns Lifetime and A&E with the Hearst Corporation and NBC.  Granted, those last two are cringe worthy, but let's face facts.  The comic books and movies will remain mostly unchanged, it just allows Disney to make more profit in the future.

Disney may once upon a time have been an evil empire on par with Wal-Mart, but that has begun to change under Bob Iger, especially with John Lasseter as Principle Creative Advisor.  News Corp. this ain't.

Especially when you consider who the largest shareholder in Disney is (bonus points if you know who he is), all this really means is that Marvel is in the capable hands of people who know how to sustain a company and properly shepherd their IPs.

Oh, and to anyone who says that Pixar couldn't do a Marvel superhero movie, I offer as examples WALL-E and Up and then challenge you that Pixar can make a movie on ANY subject and have it far exceed the efforts of easily 95% of conventional film makers currently working in the world today.  The other 5% work for Legendary Pictures.

EDIT: One more word: Miramax.

Yep, Disney only makes fun, fluffy, animated rugrat babysitters.  Nothing mature, ever.
