Aldric,
While I have no direct skill in making them, I have recently asked for this very information for purposes of protecting my tent and the Kaladonian altar space. Please feel fee to seek me out.

There are also several magical protections that can be put on buildings and the like. Feel free to seek myself or another sorcerer out and perhaps we can assist

If you want natural means of protection then you are fine. A building has walls and those within the building should be fit of protecting it and if they aren't make sure you get people who are.
However, I'm assuming that is not what you mean.

Wotcher,
I'm not entirely certain what these notes about "natural" protections are referring to, but if you're in need of some sort of security mechanism for your quarters, I'd be delighted to design one for you.
If you are interested, please contact me through the regular channels, and we can discuss the specifics of whatever it is that you have in mind.

If you are looking for a mantle that can have sockets placed in them seek out an artificer to create one. Bear in mind it may become costly depending upon the rituals you wish to have placed in it.

Or get an attack dog.
A well trained one.
Since you most likely want them to be apprehended, rather than slaughtered.
I know of at least one who is able to stay awake until the early hours of the morning to protect sleeping quarters.

Buildings attract thieves, brigands, & for some odd reason a lot of undead, woodland animals, & dangerous creatures. I recommend not staying in buildings. Sleep on a large, flat rock. Things will assume you were some sort of sacrifice & impure to the touch. Everything will leave you alone.

That sounds uncomfortable.
I would also recommend a large, and scary animal sleep near the door.
It seems to do the trick.

Though it is not a permanent solution, myself and other talented spell-singers can magically lock and sturdy any doors of a building or the flaps of a tent. It's quite handy and can buy you and Aella some time to ready yourselves lest a bandit attacks.
However, I must add the disclaimer that bards' voices work in a fugue with The Weave. Our powers are innately arcane.
Also, my friend, I believe that the Lady of Drega'Mire pinned an advertisement a while ago, offering her services of divine ceremonies, a while back.

You know how to keep yourself safe while you sleep? Don't let people know where you sleep. Do like Clove does and hide out in the woods when you're tired. Even better yet for those who can climb trees, climb into a tree and tie yourself to the strongest and highest branch you can find. Make sure to bring some ale up with you though.
