My parents asked me once when I was starting if it was a cult.  I'd been gaming for long enough that I told them what it was and that was it, by and large.  She got really curious when I started asking for those vials, which is understandable, really.

As far as most people, I just tell them I'm going camping unless I know them well enough.

I made the mistake of telling my girlfriend about it in extreme detail by recounting several stories. She of course told her parents all about it. I no longer set foot in their house without being laughed at by her father (he made fun of me before that anyway though, it's the mother who makes me feel embarassed lol).
